JeanClaude Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 I understand that left nav radio is NAV1 on captain side and right radio is NAV2 on F/O side. ILS must be manually selected and VOR is automatically selected on those same NAV radio ? There are no switch MAN/AUTO on IXEG 737-300 VHF radio, can somebody explain me how FMC/CDU can use those radios for VOR's navigation as well as pilot for ILS tuning without MAN/AUTO switch ? Quote
frumpy Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 You tune in VOR manually, as far as I know the CDU does not allow interaction with VOR frequencies. Some later 737 models have the MAN/AUTO switch and I believe they allow tuning this in the CDU if you want. It's just like in an old Cessna, you tune in the frequency on the radio panel and off you go. Quote
JeanClaude Posted December 15, 2016 Author Report Posted December 15, 2016 If i understand well, when CDU tune VOR's , the frequency dont show up on NAV radios but if i fly manually from VOR to VOR then i can use Nav radios to do the job ? I would love to read navigation chapter from FCOM of the IXEG 737 modelled but the one i have is for later models. Thanks JC Quote
frumpy Posted December 16, 2016 Report Posted December 16, 2016 Don't try to use the CDU for tuning frequencies, it can't do the job. Use the turn knobs instead to select the NAV1/2 frequencies. This is not a NG! Quote
Eddie Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Don't try to use the CDU for tuning frequencies, it can't do the job. Use the turn knobs instead to select the NAV1/2 frequencies. This is not a NG! The FMC would have automatically tuned frequencies for DME/DME updating, at least in older variants. Don't think that's modeled here though. Quote
