Not really, the Google Warehouse objects are far too complicated and have multiple texture sheets to be of use inside the generator. Also, the objects generally aren't reusable, being very specific landmarks.
-
Completely agree, and I think if OSM had a tool such as Sketchup, we'd have thousands of landmarks already
-
It's only a matter of time before google change the site anyway and gmaps won't work. It's a discussion for another forum, but I'll never understand why people submit their models or edit google's maps :/
-
They have, it's in Google Warehouse . Someone should convert it to X-Plane, it would really add to the scenery
-
Hi John It also doesn't start in the demo with just Maxx-FX installed, however it does work fine on my girlfriend's Windows 7 computer with a much older card. I'm guessing it's simply my graphics card, as discussed above and it's going to be hard to work out what it is. Hopefully I'll get rid of it soon and get myself a real laptop Thanks for your help Tony PS X-Plane also occasionally just hangs for no apparent reason when starting up (even without your addon). It happens approx. 1 in every 10 times.

@skiflyzander I'm glad you like it . There is an option inside the config file to use something called smart exclusions. What this does is allow the default scenery (or other scenery lower in priority) to be used in areas where there is no data in OSM. If you've ever use Simheaven's OSM+Autogen sceneries, then you'll already know how this looks. I highly recommend you use Alpilotx's HD mesh with this scenery. I've also created a blog post explaining how OSM is used and how it works with other scenery packages http://world2xplane.com/2014/03/11/what-is-openstreetmap/. This is awesome to hear. I'm really happy it's getting people editing OSM
-
It's a road and not a building so it wouldn't work. However, it will be visible with photoscenery or maybe in Alpilotx's mesh. You could also create a model for it and place it there if you really wanted to. It would be nice to have stadiums etc in the application, but for this, I think it's better to use the gmaps models in a standalone scenery (They'd look far more realistic)
-
Yes, if someone makes the models for them.
-
I've uploaded Switzerland test scenery to the website (give it a few more minutes if the link doesn't work). Just drop the folder into your Custom Scenery folder, and place it above all other sceneries except any airports.

I've just done a quick flight around Birrfeld (LSZF) Switzerland, using the SBack, Maxx-FX and scenery generated from the Beta 1 (Which I'm currently working on). Maxx-FX makes it look like an old 70's movie, there is also a black-white movie option, it makes X-Plane look like an old war movie, it's great fun Switzerland is presently one of my favourite places to fly
-
Excellent, just downloading it now. I'm just regenerating Switzerland at the moment as Daikan has pushed in some new Swiss buildings to the library, and I might do some screenshots. I also treated myself to Maxx-FX, and it really changes the look of the simulator . I have two computers, one is a Macbook Pro from 2011, with 16GB of RAM and a 1GB ATI card, which I do my developing on, but it's not very good with games. The other is a Windows laptop with a 2GB nvidia card, I5 2.3GHZ, 8GB of RAM. It has a 1TB drive, and it's 80% full with X-Plane scenery . I don't have a dedicated desktop computer, but I'm saving up to get a decent gaming laptop at some point. An SSD drive makes a huge difference to both X-Plane and W2XP's performance, and is worth getting
-
@Ironmaiden I've removed it from my X-Plane install for now, I'll do another test run before Beta 1. BTW, what is the plane in your screenshots, it looks good? Also, good news for Windows users, I've created a self-configuring exe. i.e. You just double-click on the .exe and it does the right thing, and will even download Java for you if you don't have it. Now it's incredibly simple to use the app.
-
Come on Iron, share some screenshots ;-). You can post them on this forum

I want to post on my blog with instructions to some of their question, as my biggest list of users at the moment are Russians.
-
No, and trust me I've searched and searched, and found nothing. My girlfriend always says I don't spend enough time shopping around (and this instance she was correct).
-
Yeah. The computer has both an nvidia and an Intel card, and the Optimus system switches between them for power saving. I wish I'd known this before buying the computer as I can't use Nvidia's drivers to update it, and I also can't disable the Intel card. The nvidia card is more than capable of running the latest games, but since many games require the latest driver's installing, they refuse to start. Samsung are the only ones who can provide driver udpates, and they haven't bothered since the laptop was released. I wish there was something I could do (apart from saving up for a new computer). If I was going to guess that this is the problem, then I'd say it was the Optimus drivers, but I'll let you know what I find. Other software such as Outerra refuse to start, and it seems to effect OpenGL only. I'll install the demo and try again this evening on a clean X-Plane install. There is nothing in the gizmo log either, X-Plane doesn't even get that far, so something very odd is going on. Thanks for your help Tony

Hi John I've purchased Maxx FX and it runs without problems on Mac OS X and I really like it (and it will shortly be finding its way into my eye-candy screenshots) . However when I try to use it on Windows, X-Plane just hangs when running it. I have to remove it out of the plugins folder to get it X-Plane to start Unfortunately there is nothing in the log file, and it hangs even before the initial choose airport/plane screen appears. It says "Initialising Plugins" at the bottom of the screen and then just hangs. Task manager isn't showing anything i.e. activity. My computer and info is below. I hope this helps and sorry I don't have any more information: - Windows 7 x64 with all latest updates - XPlane 10.25R2, running in 64 bit. - I also have Skymaxx Pro, a few Carenado planes, and the Saab 340 installed. - 8GB of RAM, and 2GB NVidia Optimus card (which is rubbish). - Graphics card drivers are out of date, and Samsung won't provide newer ones (so perhaps this is the problem). If you need any more info then please let me know Tony
-
Are there any Russian speakers here who can give me a hand translating something?
-
@Ironmaiden, I think he actually created the scenery
-
Not sure which scenery you mean, the only scenery I could find for Switzerland was actually Daikan's Switzerland buildings , and these you can just drop into your scenery folder, placing above the World2XPlane scenery. I actually found the reverse. I tried it last year on Linux Mint, but found all sorts of problems, e.g. It wouldn't run full screen, and performance was terrible compared to Windows. My computer has a rubbish Nvidia Optimus graphics card which doesn't have any decent drivers, and even more annoyingly, I can't use Nvidia's drivers with them and Samsung haven't bothered to update the drivers since it was released. I'm unable to run the latest games and things like Outerra because the drivers are out-of-date, and I fear with OpenGL update in 10.30, the time will come when X-Plane does the same. *rant over*

Super . I'm sure that will make lots of people happy

As a temporary solution, and presuming you haven't deleted the half-generated scenery Change the rule in resources/config.xml for landuse=residential to this: <rule type="random"> <filter type="key-value"> landuse=residential </filter> <density>25.0</density> <collision-test>true</collision-test> <pass-through>true</pass-through> <objects> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor01.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor02.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor03.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor04.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor05.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor06.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor07.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_bor08.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_briza01.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_briza02.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_briza03.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl01.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl02.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl03.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl04.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl05.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl06.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl07.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl08.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_jehl09.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_krovi01.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_krovi02.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_krovi03.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_krovi04.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_krovi05.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list-sad_01.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list-sad_02.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list-sad_03.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list-sad_04.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list-sad_05.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list-sad_06.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list-sad_07.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list01.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list02.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list03.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list04.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list05.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list06.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list07.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list08.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list09.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list10.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list11.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list12.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list13.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list14.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list15.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list16.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list17.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list18.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list19.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list20.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list21.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_list22.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_topol01.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_topol02.obj</object> <object>R2_Library/zelen/stromy/str_topol03.obj</object> </objects> </rule> and also alter the density for the one which places cows (you can find it by searching for cow.obj), to something like 1000. "Don't delete the rule, as it will invalidate your DB" Once the tile has regenerated, you can then stop and start again and put the old rule back in (maybe lower the density to 4) Because you used local storage mode, you should be able to resume (as long as you haven't deleted your tiles). The next version will provide a fix (work-around) for this problem.

Yes, see the blog post http://world2xplane.com/2014/03/10/generating-france/ ;-) I'm working on it
-
Thanks Daikan, and I agree that it doesn't make sense yet to distribute the files as they will change every single alpha release (and they are coming quickly), and it would be a nightmare to continually update the countries whenever the program is changed. A user has offered us some server space, so I'll upload a few demo areas, but it won't be regularly updated until v1 is out. I'm working on a way of reducing the generated scenery size at the moment, so far with my experiments the folder size has reduced by about 40%, but if it effects performance then it may not be worth it. Also, just wanted to add that if you use Daikan's scenery, you will also need the R2 and FFLibraries. http://xplane.cz/en/r2-library/ http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=12708 Also, there is currently an issue which has prevented DDSTool generating a specific tile in France (Surprisingly it wasn't Paris). So I'm looking into this at the moment.

Do you think enough people would download it and seed them for it work? I don't normally use torrents, so I don't know
