  1. Why does everyone keep saying that the chase view doesn't let you zoom out to space?

You can indeed "zoom all the way out" into space in the new chase view in XP10; just like the old chase view in XP9.

Hit Shift-8 - the new 'default' chase view (I've remapped this to 'a', so the old chase view key), then hold down shift-, (shift-comma, the default 'move away fast' when viewing external).

    Voila. Space!

  2. Looks incredible! Any chance of seeing photo scenery for the surrounding areas as well?

Yep - LINZ has full 10cm orthos for all of Christchurch and Akaroa, taken between Feb and Aug 2011. It'll take me a while to download, resample, and position them.

As it's not as important to have hi-res images for the city, I wanted to break up the 'airport' (where you are likely to be close to the ground, and hence you want the best hi-res ortho), versus flying above the 'city', where you're at altitude, and I can use lower-res (i.e. 512x512) imagery instead, using 1/16th the memory.

The source dataset is around 200 Gigabytes or so... It'll take some time to collect and process into X-plane compatible .DSF scenery.

  3. The buildings are RoyalOak's NZCH scenery as mentioned. I have not adjusted his scenery in any way. (i.e. same buildings, same locations). My additions are all about proper ground texturing, relocating the taxiways to the correct locations, fix the taxi signs, etc. =)

I'm now working to get rid of silly-ness on the orthos (such as images of planes taxiing or sitting), so it'll be nice and clean.

  4. GDay all,

As mentioned to Andy, here's some screenshots of my attempt at using WED, GeoTiffs, GraphicConverter, and a few other graphical processing utilities.

In no particular order. Some are earlier tests in the build to make sure things were working out. Many lines and taxiway features have been adjusted to be as accurate as possible. (Courtesy of LINZ/Land Information New Zealand for their recent 10 cm resolution orthos!)

Orthos were downsampled to 2k x 2k, still giving excellent quality. The screenshots were also downsampled from 1680x1050 PNGs to 1024x600 JPEG at 80% quality as to not fill up x-pilot's hard drives.

All shots in XPlane 10 Demo (as Im still waiting for my discs!). Buildings/Object Scenery is Roaloak's existing NZCH.

Note that I've been able to make the orthos go 'above' the taxiways, so lines, markings, lights, signs, and the like are all layed on top of the ortho, giving a really nice effect. (i.e. you still still get all the taxiway lights, hold points, etc...), while the taxiway is still there underneath the scenery, so you can still drive on it properly.

    Happy new year to all.

  5. Heh. It's a race! =)

I'm just re-doing all the taxiways and runways to be a heck-more-accurate that the default apt.dat. (and better than the existing v9 one located at http://www.hatsuon.n...yX-Plane9X.html). Always sucks when flying online and in VATSIM, I know i'm way 'off' in my taxiing vs everyone else - so I decided to take the time to fix it.

I'm also trying to cut down the ortho's from the v9 scenery - and have now added my own orthophotos that only cover the airport.

Likewise, much like yourself (and the cool 'plausible' CBD buildings), I too am working on some GEarth 3Dwarehouse items to add to YSSY. Texturing is going to be an issue. It's been a fun few weeks with WED 1.1b4 I tell ya! =) (aka http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=15392)

But Yukon is indeed correct. Basically the .DSF is incorrect (same as Denver and Paris as Ben mentioned in the dev blog - those have now been recut and are updated when you update X-P). Looks like the OSM interpreter saw the wrong tag for the area, or mis-interpreted some other data. Nonetheless - A new .DSF will be cut for this - (as no amount of WED tinkering can fix that....! heh)

P.S. We are all aware of botany bay being filled in. It was reported weeks ago as well to the devs.

  6. Wow. Never seen such a screen... and the chances of two of you end up with the exact same visual window.

Suggestions are to update XPlane from here: http://www.x-plane.com/pg_downloads.html first if you already haven't (ensuring that if there's some sort of missing file, it would be replaced by the updater).

Other than that, sounds like an nVidia Driver Problem; as you mention you also got the "OGL_shader.cpp" error line. (Missing OpenGL pixel shader info) Can you post your log.txt?

    - CK.

P.S. 6200 is a rather old card - might want to look for a much older driver for it.
