  1. Hi All Interested Parties,

As mentioned, I'd like to throw out all the PNGs that we're using in the YSSY scenery that need some Photoshop work done on them. Specifically we need the "aircraft images" removed. (tarmac areas, taxiways, etc.)

I suggest if you take a tile to work on, just post which one you're working on in this thread (so we don't duplicate effort). You can re-post the tile here, or (to save Cameron's Bandwidth), email me the completed image at ckawchuk at gmail dot com. The files are between 7Mb and 11Mb each.

The naming structure of the tiles are arranged in a grid:

    <Column>-<Row>.png

15-2.png would be: Column 15 of the scenery, Row 2

If you need the adjoining tile above it (north), it would be 15-1.png

If you need the adjoining tile below it (south), it would be 15-3.png

If you need the adjoining tile to the left of it (west), it would be 14-2.png

If you need the adjoining tile to the right of it (east), it would be 16-2.png

    Tiles can be found here:

    http://206.80.253.13...hrisk/YSSYPNGs/

Note: Only those tiles which need some touch-up work are listed. Other tiles are already "clean" (No Acft Images on them).

Thanks again to everyone willing to pitch in! Naturally, full credit will be given in every subsequent release until eternity.

....I can also arrange for Blueberry Pies to be delivered. =)

  2. Minor update...

I found some great free-to-use Containers and a container crane to help fill out that northern shipping yard w/some different container types. (Only have 3 types like before in the OpenX project is...... well....... limiting to say the least - doesn't give the proper effect of a 'busy shipping area' like it should). Just emailed the author for permission for inclusion.

I'll post a more substantial update tomorrow. (i.e. got the taxiways working, AI traffic now works, more buildings/detail/objects/greenery etc..). Beta 0.2 coming this way soon.!

    - CK.

P.S. Simon, Thank Chip and yourself from me for the glowing review on xplane10.wordpress.com. Appreciated!

  3. Glad to see you're all enjoying the Beta!

I hope to make updates around 1 per week or so until completion. My current focus is getting all the taxiways lined up and paved (so you can actually taxi off the runway without going bump-bump-bump across what X-Plane think is just dirt...)

I also want to try an experiment in "crowdsourced Photoshopping". i.e. I'll post a URL which contains all the scenery tiles (PNG format), which if anyone wants to "photoshop out" the images of aircraft on the taxiways/ramps/etc and re-upload as a 'cleaned' image for use int he scenery. I have some days off over the next few days, so I'll try to get them all uploaded someplace which we can all 'get at them', so to speak.

Appreciate all the offers for assistance!

If you see anything in the YSSY area which you have an object for, I am always up for adding it into the final scenery for everyone to enjoy.

For example, here's the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Sketchup (attached). If someone can make a single texture file for it, and convert back to .OBJ (or send me back the .skp and I'll export it as an OBJ), I'll place it in the right place on the map. Other items may include any landmarks, bridges, downtown buildings, etc.... Any donations to the project are highly encouraged and appreciated.

Thanks for all the support guys...!. This is what community is all about =)

  4. I have reloaded XPlane 10 on the slave computer, checked versions again, checked folder and files, checked IP addresses and all is now working fine.

    ....

So it would seem you not only need a separate copy of X-plane for each computer but also a separate copy of any aircraft and scenery add-ons for each computer.

Correct. Both XP10 installs must be absolutely identical for it to work. (Aircraft folders, Custom Scenery Folders, etc...)

Let us know how you fare with TrackIR.

  5. First Beta Release - Beta 0.1 (For those who like to be bleeding-edge):

    >>> File is Depreciated - See Later in this Thread for Beta 0.2

File size: 293 Mbytes (317,014,068 bytes)

    YSSY Airport BETA 0.1

    Build May 27, 2012

    - first beta release to X-Pilot.com people

    - XP10 Only - since it uses 90% XP10 objects

Credits: (lots of people have generously donated objects so far!)

    - Sethesus (Checkered Huts, Electrical Junction Boxes, YSSY Tower)

    - HenryT (Checkered Huts)

    - Nickster (Radio Mast, Radar Ball, Red shipping containers, dumpsters, diggers, bollards)

    - Skyflyer (HungryJacks, Billboards, McDonalds, etc..)

    - Laminar for the LOWI XP9 Buildings (Dunno if I can redistribute this? - tkyler pls advise)

    - Nerarmap.com for the orthos at 15cm resolution (free redistribution and derivation for noncommercial use)

I highly suggest using Jack's Ashphalt replacement textures found here:

    http://forums.x-plan...&showfile=16270

    Bugs/Todo:

LOTS OF BUGS!...too many to mention - but I'm aware of them i.e:

    - Taxiways have no surface

    - Most Taxiways and lines are not aligned to the ortho

    - Orthos not optimized in any way (2k x 2k DDSs everywhere)

    - Orthos contain aircraft Images

    - Orthos not Alpha'd for Water

    - Many Taxi signs not aligned

    - Incorrect sizing of a few taxi signs

    - Incorrect Converted Glyphs on Taxi Signs

    - Certain Buildings are simply "stand ins" until I get better objects (i.e. "Delta Hangar"…)

    - Glideslope towers and ILSs need alignment from the master database to line up with the scenery

(basically, Sydney moved the GS towers slightly over the years.. you can see where they used to be on the orthos)

(attached changes-to-navaids.txt has the new locations I need to submit to Robin)

    - CK.

P.S. Seth - "Runways Follow Terrain" works quite well for this scenery. I test with both "on" and "off" - and they both work fine. RWY 16R/34L has a slight height variation which looks great.

  6. Hi Seth - Absolutely. It's actually a Google Warehouse one I pulled down - which I believe is free for redistribution. (After checking the SU-warehouse licence). I believe the way I read it, that I can use a warehouse object in derivative works.

  7. Hi Goran,

Appreciate the offer! I'm currently using one of the built-in XP10 Control Towers (which, oddly enough, highly resembles the olde Sydney Tower....)

    737_146.jpg

I also have a sketchup model now of the curvey main control tower. If someone can texture it up; that would be great; as I think that one is going to be far more "iconic" so to speak.

Download here: http://206.80.253.13...Y/tower.skp.zip (Its textured properly in Sketchup - however SKP -> OBJ conversion takes some work, as it will need a proper 2D texture file (and not the built in painted/default ones). I tried my best with this to line it up as an OBJ and export it - but alas, My Sketchup-Fu is weak.

  8. Boeing uses a very similar design (if not identical design) for their Winglets on many of their Aircraft. I believe the 767 looks the same as the '37NG series.

Suppose it has to do something with the 100,000 hours of wind tunnel testing =) They came out with a great shape which works well for them.

Airbus uses a different design; which seems to work for them.

    - CK.

  9. First one is the actual frame rate you want to read (f-act) - it's the FPS being achieved on your video card.

Second one (f-sim) is the math internally that X-Plane is trying to use for it's physics calculations. It should never drop below 19 or so, else things become unpredictable. If your f-act is below the f-sim value, then it's running in slow-motion since the video card cant keep up.

The third value "frame time" is the elapsed time in milliseconds between finishing the calculations and pushing info to the video card, and the return from the video card. (I believe - someone correct me if Im wrong here..) i.e. how long it's taking OpenGL to render the frame... as this is outside X-Plane's control once it instructs the card what to do. For example, if my video card (f-act) is doing 50 FPS = 1000ms / 50 frames = 0.020 sec per frame, which is about what I see on my system.

  10. Found some nice imagery for your area, Larjeet =)

I'll do this one up after the other one. Should be pretty easy. Could even send you the image files if you want to try your hand at WED 1.2 =)

    737_77.jpg

    737_78.jpg

30cm resolution stuff... Pretty sharp imagery. Needs some building/taxi/runway alignment work done, which is pretty easy to do.

    - CK.

  11. Yup. I already have used many of Walterblenny's objects as part of the scenery. However, the triangle count on his models are insane! (i.e. 50 FPS drop in some areas just by showing his AWOS tower which I had used in the YSSY scenery)

Thanks for the tips! Want to make this as widely supported as possible, but know many users shy away from installing RuScenery for one reason or another... (I think it's the 'RU' in RuScenery which scares them from downloading anything from their site...)

  12. Clutter in the Vertical Plane helps fill things out. Sethius and HenryT have been helping with some great SketchUp Objects.!

    737_66.jpg

Ignore the ground resolution. It's at 1/4 the full res (so it loads fast while doing testing).

  13. Hi Setheus,

The total object should be no more than 18-24 inches tall, by about 12 inches wide, by 4-6 inches depth. They aren't that big from what I recall.

The PVCs out the bottom are probably 4" conduits... so 2 of them would make it 12" along the bottom, 4" depth, and, well, 24" height (perhaps 18" height). I'd have to muck around with it ti get the correct perspective/ratio of sides till it looked right.

  14. Agreed Cameron,

I think this may be released under some kind of "X-Pilot.com" Banner =). (In fact, I have some advertising billboards which I could plaster the x-pilot logo on, and 'conveniently place' them on existing advert billboards which are just outside the YSSY airport as in real life).

.. Already had an idea for one, which says to "Visit Beautiful NZCH...." w/some appropriate screenshots. -grin-

I am really appreciating the community help here. It's amazing what happens when you get a good group of talented people together for a common goal.

airfighter, I remember OlaHaldor posted one earlier in hi-res. Aha, found it:

I'll keep google searching for "sydney airport control tower" and see if I can find some more...

  15. - Runway Bollards, Huts, More Ground Clutter..... (Thanks Sethius and HenryT for the objects!)

    - Realigned the runways precisely with the ortho.

    - Lots more XP10 lighting
