  1. After patient wait, I finally got my answer for performance problems I am experiencing: http://developer.x-plane.com/2012/02/three-nasty-bugs/ ATI users, take a look at this blog.
  2. Clouds look amazing, set low altitude (50ft) overcast, looks great. Is it just me or the frame rates are getting lower per update? Now I am down to 8-9 FPS from 11-14 FPS.
  3. The term "News" is not neccessarly equivalent to "New". "News", in terms of changes, updates and rendering improvements, etc,. not ``NEW``. You can follow the progress on their forum.
  4. I have X-Plane 9 full version, and X-Plane 10 demo. Also, the beta, is out you're aware of that right? I dont have the beta but I have comments from people who have beta. Hence, I did not compare the flight models of the two, I just stated my observations. In regards to landscape where I did state facts, pictures, vids, are sufficient to compare actual terrain, you don`t need to fly in it. And that`s what my previous post was mostly about. Since you're desparate about facts, after I purchase I will write a review here, and certainly will just further fortify the points I made about the landscape. That will take care of your that, you certainly will have all your facts.
  5. You totally missed the point. For this matter of fact I will not post anymore technological news so people don't get upset anymore. Save your personal remarks please, they're not neccessary.
  6. Before you write a response next time, answer this question for yourself: Why do you think that I (or anyone) for this matter of fact who makes a statement about actual fact or reality is immediately making a personal attack on X-Plane? I simply stated the facts based on what the facts are. Read my comments more carefully. I don't really care whether you fly X-Plane or FSX, that's not the point. I came across next gen software that shows true potential of the hardware and if X-Plane is behind that's not my problem, neither your problem. If you're on Laminar's payroll, well, maybe instead of attacking new ideas, should bring these forth for whom you work.
  7. I am not sure of the flight model but, ..in the vid Cessna landing, the aircraft interaction with the landscape looked much more realistic then what I see in X-Plane where the plane surfaces go through things.
  8. All, If you did not come across the Outerra engine, here are some vids I recently really enjoyed: http://www.outerra.c...php?topic=390.0 http://www.outerra.c...php?topic=337.0 http://www.outerra.c...php?topic=243.0 http://www.outerra.c...php?topic=313.0 (Don't try this in real life) http://www.outerra.c...php?topic=267.0 (sunset, aaaaaah) (I heard from the forums, you can create your own models) To add, all these run on current gen video cards with excellent frame rates as reported by beta testers. Also found out, it is coming out soon, I definitely will pay every penny if this includes entire earth (and I heard it does): http://www.outerra.c...php?topic=553.0 Enjoy.
  9. If the fix the flight models, oh wow that would be so great. My order of preference: - Fix it for planes - Fix it for ground vehicles - Fix for helicopters (I can live with the current flight model since it is least annoying)
  10. Bohemia interactive is also one of their customers. Reason why I am pointing them out because I think they will use this engine in Arma 3 (I am not 100% certain, just saw few demos). Arma is military combat simulator for various audiences and the game/sim is way ahead of the games suchs Battlefield 3 and Modern warfare when it comes to graphics, balistics, etc. Here's a link to preview of Arma 3:
  11. I would be really suprised if the performance is poor. If they charge $200 K for this and the performance is poor they will stuggle and or disappear real fast. It is really difficult (if not impossible) fool good developers or large software companies to purchase poor performance SDKs, that's not the case with regular software customers (no harm intended).
  12. Yes, but ... FSX clouds look better with REX and are more realistic. Even beta 7 clouds in X-Plane look very strange sometimes (I see clouds I never saw in real life). X-Plane 9 was one version behind FSx, I would even say FS9 (but thats arguable). Quite frankly, with current hardware (and GLs) on the market we should expect more and finally we see the effects so there's no arguments. I wished that FS team never disappeared, maybe after 5 years we would have new innovation (as I saw in FS9, FSX). I am glad I haven`t blown $80 away on this sim, I will checkout the other options that are opening up on the horizon. Right now, because of the poor FPS, various scenery, clouds issues I switched back flying in FSX with REX and ORBX. I can`t come back and look at X-Plane again after playing FSX. Just my 2 cents.
  13. That's correct, demo has limited scenery. I look at different previews on http://xplane10.wordpress.com/, they look at different items in X-plane from terrain to lighting, clouds, etc.
  14. No, I am not kidding. It depends where you are. Some terrain is rendered better in one place than others. For example go to Dubai, UAE or other places in the world. Also, the terrain accuracy varies. The fact it looks great locally doesn't mean it looks great everywhere else.
  15. They may, they may not. You most likely would have a better turn around on this issue if you're still trying the demo and haven't purchased the game until this issue is resolved. That's why I have not purchased my copy yet,- not tied to the sim in anyway. I will wait on the final product, after all it is still in beta. So far here is my quick, dirty evaulation: - Lighting - BEST ever seeen for a sim - Terrain - poor-to-moderate (in relation to other sims) - Clouds - Excellent until now - FPS - bad even on high end systems (I get much better FPS in FSX with better looking terrain and clouds) Clearly, until the above is addressed I will not spend $80.
  16. Dido! Not only the clouds look bad and lower FPS, the sky background looks unrealistic. I set overcast, low altitude clouds and the result was although the clouds were at the right altitude the sky was blue, not dark gray. Looked really stupid to say the least.
  17. Well, nothing hurts to play for FREE!
  18. LOL! That's not mine, I wish. I saw this on you tube and I posted this here since it looks really nice. I love the night lighting on the approach, exactly how it is in the real world.
  19. Could not resist but to post this, it looks very real and convincing. Watch and see:
  20. Definetly I agree with your comments and all comments hence as I stated in my original post, I will wait until things get better. I do admit though that I expected a bit better performance for a beta though. I am software developer myself so obviously I have certain expectations based on my professional occupation. Nevertheless, I am not upset and I understand difficulties releasing games on various platforms. Time will tell. Reason why I was making the above commets is you do realize the software is released now and I think it will come with same performance as the demo. Release of the software is not beta.
  21. My expectations are very reasonable. Simply stated: - 19/20 FPS is a poor experience. You should be flying at min. of 30 FPS. - I will not go into specific graphics settings that I have set (tuned based on my hardware; set just below average, no HDR) the sim under-performs on my machine (ATI 5870, overclocked i920 3.8 GHz, 6 GB of RAM, Win 7-64 bit, running of SSD - solid state drive, defintely a higher end system). The sim barely renders 15 FPS, avg 13 FPS. I`d like to mention that yes I am running at 3870x1050 and that`s why I have ATI card because it handles well high res. In window mode (1650x1050) I can hit 20-25 FPS, that`s still below the bare minimum. Main reason why I went with X-Plane 9 originally because of its good frame rates. X-Plane 10 tuned down may even look worse than X-Plane 9 with lower frame rates.
  22. Yes, that's correct, non-disclosure unfortunately. If you would like to find out first hand, you need to sign up. I am sorry for this news.
  23. I just found out that MS Flight is looking for Beta testers. More details: http://www.gamespot.com/news/microsoft-flight-beta-registration-opens-6347026?tag=updates%3Beditor%3Ball%3Btitle%3B3 I think I will sign up. As for X-Plane X I'll wait unitl the performance is improved. lk
