And, again, my admiration of that spirit was what got lost in my words. I was merely trying to acknowledge that you've set your customers' expectations high; that this is a risk because of factors in Laminar's control, not yours; and that you're treating it as a challenge, not an excuse, which is deeply laudable. In short, I'm delighted at your approach and sorry that this did not come through in prior messages. Best, marshall

Again, sorry. I love that you love it and am marveling at the quickness with which you're diving into this

John, Apologies, not my intent at all, which was supposed to be unadulterated praise. Sorry it came off otherwise best, marshall

>> The issue here from our standpoint is that X-Plane is representing reduced visibility, but we aren't getting any clouds that coincide with that area of reduced visibility<< Frank, Thanks, first of all, for these quick fixes. Thanks, especially, for recognizing that despite the handicaps X-Plane presents, you and other third-party weather apps do face a commercial reality. Essentially, like it or not, in the consumer's mind you've "replaced" the existing weather system. I know I'm using the term loosely, but that's the perception. From a user's standpoint, you've replaced the X-Plane weather depiction, with the promise of improving it. Which means you now own it, problems and all, like it or not. Which can suck, having the perception of your product at the mercy, sometimes, of limitations not of your making. What I truly appreciate is that you're embracing the challenge. With any luck, others will see it, too. Best, Marshall

Frank, et al, Thanks for the quick turnaround on 3.32. Unfortunately, the fading overcast issue still exists. Climbing makes it disappear. And you can't see the undercast beneath. Here's a link to a new video illustrating the problem. And, attached, are the appropriate logs. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AkWaL-UKxyqJlagTLyaK8QZr2ZSL0A Best, Marshall Log.txt METAR.rwx

How bout I change it to "Soon-to-be-fixed?" :-) I'll just axe it. (There goes my best click-bait) Best, marshall

Frank, Wow. Sounds good. If you'd like, I'll take that video down--especially since it will soon be obsolete. Best, marshall

Frank, Thanks for the quick eyeballs. For a user, I don't much care one way or another who's doing what. Which is not to say I don't appreciate the difficulties you get saddled with. Please see what you can do. I'd settle for no fog or fog--whichever--just not fog that disappears. Keep it up. Thanks. best, Marshall

This has been a chronic problem throughout SkyMaxx versions. Enclosed is a link to a brief video demonstrating it and then making the same quick flight in default weather. Leaving aside all the advantages of SkyMaxx's cloud depiction, it seems to me to be utterly broken in this respect. Scenario is as follows. On the ground in fog or low overcast. Climbing does not put you into it. Instead, the layer recedes away from you and vanishes beneath you. It works in reverse on arrival. You descend from clear skies, with a clear view of the ground, into the same conditions--and this is important--without EVER descending through ANYTHING. Performance considerations aside, X-Plane, on its own, renders this just fine. Getting this right strikes me as fundamental. Otherwise, practicing IFR procedures which, as you know, involve decision altitudes, becomes pretty much impossible. Here's the short video and, attached, are my log.txt and METAR.rwx. Cameron, Agree on all of this. Thanks for keeping the emphasis on the operational. I can quibble with the choices--NAV radios, for instance--but applaud the focus. Best, Marshall

First off, wow! What a honey of an airplane. Quirky, feature-packed, good sounding and a peach to hand-fly. However, I can't get all that good sound in replay mode, Is this normal? Replay is silent, except for ground-roll noises (the XP defaults?). Is your custom sound engine simply not part of instant replay, or is something not working as it should? In all other respects, I am beyond delighted with the plane and am eagerly awaiting the update. One request for improvement--better ground characteristics and touchdown sounds. Best, Marshall

You spoiled me with weekly improvements. Can you offer any general clues, Jan et al, what kind of stuff we can expect next, and roughly when? I fully understand that works in progress are works in progress and that the course of development is rarely certain. Best, Marshall

"Hi, I'm Larry; this is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl."

Gentleman, Ladies, you have outdone yourself. Outdone everyone, in fact. On my most recent flight--Christchurch to Queenstown, posting later today on YouTube--I glanced down at the left-hand side of the center pedestal, and what did I see? A cup-holder. And a cup of coffee. A *sloshing* cup of coffee, with a moving reflection! Okay, cool. Then, when I exited the turbulence I was in, the coffee stopped sloshing and the reflection quit moving. Even better. And when the main gear touched. . .the coffee jiggled! Over. Done. Best ever. Made my day! Best, Marshall

That's quite okay. Deeply appreciate the candor and quick action as it is

Thanks, again. Looking forward to the improvements. To clarify on the overcast representation options, when you said, "It'll represent the overcast cloud with puff particles instead of as a solid slab, but it's the only way to completely avoid these sorts of intersections for the time being," that there's some kind of better method being contemplated and/or coded?
-
Thanks Frank, Cameron! Won't setting overcast to sparse or dense particles, though, basically turn the overcast into "not-really-overcast?"
-
Okay. Will experiment in other locales

PAJN Is there an official bug report/ticket I need to file?

Just installed 3.2 and am getting these chunks in the sky. Thought maybe it was an HDR On/Off problem, but it happens either way. This is default settings with the exception of a wider coverage area set. Any ideas? METAR.rwx Log.txt

Cameron, Fair enough. We now return to our regularly-scheduled questions about why certain clouds do and don't appear the way they should in SkyMaxx. :-) best, Marshall

My remarks were not aimed at the minutiae of your interchange with the customer in question. My impressions were based on reading your posts over time. I don't doubt you have a passion for making software and making it the best you can. That's not at issue. What I have noticed, over the years, is that you are prickly and defensive, even when you're right. About a million years ago, I got some customer-service training for a major retailer that was known for truly excellent service. The primary lesson was simple--It is always a bad idea to win an argument with your customers. Even if you're right. At worst, you lose them as customers. At best, you sow doubts such as "Gee, this guy spends so much time trying to win an argument; I wonder how much time he actually spends improving the product and my experience." Again, I have no doubt you're proud of what you do and make. I'm a major fan of RWC. I'm a MINOR fan of SkyMaxx. I'm a devoted fan of IXEG. That's not the issue. I just think the tone sometimes is off-putting--and it's something I never notice from Morten, or Jan or Frank and others. best, marshall

Uhhh. You're doing it now. 'nuff said on my end. I'll leave it to others to look at some of your past replies, and other threads, and judge for themselves. Maybe it's my sensibilities that need calibration. But in my experience, it's not how you think you act that matters, it's how others see it. Best, marshall

I'll look for something similar and send it when it arises. best, marshall

Yessir, I did.Ended up with no undercast to speak of at all. Will keep monkeying with it. However, the same METAR, in Active Sky, produced the desired effect, including foothill peaks poking out of it. So whatever algorithmic choices they made for such situations (or at least for THAT situation) worked and SkyMaxx's did not. And I know because this was happening outside my own window at the time. I don't still have the situation or the video. However, I will find something similar, as soon as I can, and send the video and the log-file to you. Best, Marshall
