Congrats on finding someone to be a regular passenger.

And ferries can be interesting.  I did one September 2015, one of four C172R's from Ontario to British Columbia.  Three days, and 21.5 hours.

They definitely are. Got any pictures from your trip? I recently completed another one from Atlanta to Chicago. I flew the trip with Ted Turner's chief pilot. It's amazing the new skills and tactics you can learn from very experienced pilots.

I've always found flying with passengers to be a much more rewarding experience than flying alone.  And I've had some really awesome flights by myself as well, but having passengers on board especially when they start nervous and then through explanation and your own enthusiasm become enthusiastic as well, is very rewarding.

Unfortunately, I've only done a sum total of 1.1 hours this year, today specifically - although it was a fun flight by myself doing low level circuits in the Citabria.

Couldn't agree more. Sharing the love of aviation is truly one of the most rewarding experiences in aviation. My girlfriend was hooked after our first flight (which was on our 4th date... :D) and now she's slowly learning how to fly! Hoping to get her to fly me around soon! She learned my passion quickly after seeing how much I'd light up any instance I saw a plane around.

Low level circuits are always fun! I got very lucky this year and managed to score a ferry flight from Florida to California and back in a 172 in 6 days. We flew about 4000 miles and I ended up with around 50 hours. Absolutely amazing to see all the different sights you see when you travel such an extended distance. Pics below.

  3. I have the r9 290x msi lighting, but it's on a z97 board with i4790 cpu. I had to replace an 850 watt PSU with a 1250 watt to keep the card from shut downs. With your CPU I do not think you will see a lot of difference as X-Plane is so bound to the CPU. You could look at it as an investment in the future though.... :)

Thanks for the feedback! I think the CPU is going to be changing before the end of the month...  :P

  4. For a few months I've been contemplating picking up a new GPU and PSU for my desktop that runs XP. Unfortunately, my current PSU was only 460w so it wouldn't run anything higher than my current AMD 6850 with 1gb of vram. Yesterday I picked up a new 750w Thermaltake PSU and I also ordered a new XFX R9 290x with 4gb of Vram.

Although it's a relatively newer card, does anyone here use it in their setup? I'd be curious to see the results they're getting. My goal isn't really to max out XP. Just to gain some FPS on top of increased details.

    Current setup is: Intel Core I7 2600 @ 3.4Ghz, AMD Radeon HD6850 with 1GB DDR5 Vram, 10GB DDR3 RAM, 1.5TB HDD.
