Richdem Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Hi There, I am using the latest version of Skymaxx Pro and have been getting some weird visual effects going on. When I started the flight this afternoon everything looked good but 20 minutes in as I was climbing through cloud the issue arose. In the 3rd image all the areas in white were flashing. I disabled Silverlining from the plugin menu and the problem instantly went away. This has been happening for some time I just never got around to posting about it. For now I have uninstalled SMP as it kinda kills the immersion. Any help would be greatly appreciated Richard Quote
FloB Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 (edited) Please post your skymaxx pro settings. First pictures look like your overcast setting is "low" within skymaxx. That results in a flat overcast layer like in your screenshot. Ugly but not a bug. Set it to "medium" or "high" and overcast will appear as a dense cloud layer. The overcast representation seems to be reworked from ground up in the next version (3.0) 3rd picture, best guess: You have the RTH-plugin installed or any other art controls manipulation (lua scripts). To me it looks like some crazy scattering/HDR gain settings. Try to disable those plugins and see what happens. (Might be a video driver bug too. Check for updates.) With skymaxx you need to take some time to set it up. After a while you will find settings that suit your preferences. It's not perfect, though. Flo Edited October 5, 2015 by FloB Quote

Flo Thank you for the reply, It looks like the shifting the overcast setting to medium did the trick. Here are my settings, I would love some advice on what I can do to improve further. I have a i3570K @ 4.7, 16GB DDR3 @ 1866 and an Asus GTX780. I should have asked for help earlier lol Regards Richard Quote
FloB Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) Well, that's too much a matter of personal taste. I for one prefer a higher cloud draw distance over more cloud detail. So my first slider is pulled back to 1/4 and the second one set to 1/2. Don't go too far on this, it will really hit your performance. And i enabled the cloud shadows. The FPS-hit is low and the effect is great with broken cloud formations. But as I said... Or did you ask for overall advice on addons / plugins for X-Plane? Flo PS: If I remeber correctly the 780 is a 3GB card. If you suddenly run into serious FPS trouble you should check your VRAM usage (GPU-Z or similar). X-Plane is very VRAM hungry and once you are over the top FPS will suffer a great deal. Cutting down texture resolution (I suggest max. "very high" for a 3GB card) is the easiest way to deal with it. Thank you I was specifically talking about SkyMaxx Pro, Sorry for the confusion. You are correct my GTX780 has 3GB VRAM which it is very easy to consume. I have been monitoring this & system memory since upgrading to 10.40 as I realized with the extended DSF option I quickly run out of system memory hence why I upgraded to 16GB DDR3 I can pretty much get a solid 30FPS with complex addons such as the FLYJSim 737 & JAR A330 but I am aware with the extended DSF and heavy weather in an area with non stock scenery I could run into VRAM issues. I do have my texture settings at Very high and up until now have been fine with the other sliders set accordingly. I can see a new graphics card on the horizon, I would like to see the 6GB prices come down a little further lol I am interested in getting the best out of Skymaxx. Lilke I said in my original post I should have asked for help earlier regarding the overcast issue Richard Quote
