paulkinzelman Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 I'm running X-plane 9 on an old XPsp3 systemAMD 64x2 4400+, 2.3GHz, 2GB Ramand it runs OK. I tried installing X-plane 10 on it and get an error when I try to install the demo version:"The procedure entry point SetProcessDPIAware could not be located in the dynamic linklibrary USER32.dll" 1) Is that hardware system sufficient to run Xplane10 or does it need more resources than 9? 2) Does X-Plane 10 need some OS more recent than XPsp3? TIA! Quote
chris k Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) You really need Win7 64 bit or better. (Win8/Win8.1/Win10 etc....)WinXP isn't going to cut it anymore.XPlane10 is written to take advantage of newer OSs and 64 bit processing. WinXP crashes out due to lack of a proper IPv6 Networking stack too, but I think there's a hack/workaround somewhere for that. Go grab an old cheap copy of Windows 7 64-bit. You'll thank yourself:) Edited October 2, 2015 by chris k Quote

You'll thank yourself:) With his 2GB RAM hardware and a 10 years old CPU ? A heavy and resource-demanding OS like Windows 7 may help for compatibility issues with newer 64 bit add-ons, but I would not expect better performance with this OS and hardware. Did you update your graphic driver ? Quote

Win7 isn't going to make anything faster. BTW, the HiDPI Library DLL is actually an x-plane problem now in 10.40. Laminar added code to help for HiDPI 4k monitor scaling -- however WinXP does not, and never will have, such a DLL call... (i.e to support a technology 10 years before it existed =)). I think that this really spells the end for WinXP support as of 10.40, unless Ben pushes a patch in 10.41. - Ck. Edited October 3, 2015 by chris k Quote
GregK Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Imagine my surprise/pleasure at discovering XP9 runs on my 10 year old G5 mac...dual 2.5 GHz processors, 4GB RAM, (overclocked) factory video card and OS 10.5.8It's not the hardware, it's the OS. Quote
Igor4U Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 It's a Bug with 10.40/41 Installer.exe that manifests with Windows XP.* See Ben's Comments: Installer says Entry point not foundhttp://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=89546 From: "Ben Supnik" <ben@x-plane.comSent: Thursday, October 15, 2015 10:10 PMSubject: Re: Bug report: Can't update to XP-10.40/41 on Windows XP Machine Thank you for reporting this!!! This is a bug in the installer - the defect was fixed in X-plane itself but did not make it to the installer. We should have a fix for this sometime next week; as soon as I have a fixed installer I'll send you a copy to test - that will let you update! cheers Ben When X-Plane came out (a while back now) Nov-Dec-2011, LR promised that X-Plane 10 would be compatable (run on) with Windows XP for the Life of X-Plane 10..But a lot has changed since then: X-Plane gone 64bit, Windows 7, 8/8.1, and now 10 Support for Widows XP just has to take a Back-Seat with where we are Today - it may have gotten just "too hard to do" !Not sure what the next X-Plane 10 release will be (10.42+), but 10.50 will be a Biggie. Let's cross our fingers and see if LR can keep it's Windows XP Promise in the Future. Quote
