PNut Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 I use to fly real Cessna 172, so I'd thought I'd give X-Plane 9.7 (Complete DVD) a try. System Config: - 27-inch, Late 2012 iMac- (2560 x 1440) Display- OSX 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion)- 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7- 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB- External DVD & backup - CH Products "Fighterstick"- To buy: Saitek Pedals - Pro Cessna Yoke - Throttle Quandrant - Cessna Trim Wheel_________________________ Settings: _________________________ Things I expected - but are missing. Tips appreciated. - Stock 3D cockpits are incomplete. - No checklists. - Map size restriction - can't find VOR, ADF, ILS, GPS data easily for longer flights. - Aircraft operating instructions. ( e.g.. take off speed V1, Vr etc.) - Pushback missing. - Charts missing. - Airport buildings missing. - Aircraft look blurry from outside view. - Cockpit instrument printing not clear I've seen YouTube videos with elaborate cockpit detail, airports, push carts etc.I must be missing something. Thx, PNut Quote
BWolf7 Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 None of those things you have listed are included in X-Plane default. Try unchecking the "Compress textures to save VRAM" option. The X-Plane GPS default is quite "bad", and the default aircraft aren't the best. There is no high quality C172 that I know of.I believe that the default airports will be filled with buildings very soon in future updates. Quote
Mario Donick Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 The X-Plane GPS default is quite "bad", and the default aircraft aren't the best. There is no high quality C172 that I know of. If you equal "high quality" with what the A2A C172 was supposed to be (and surely will be soon after some patching), than you're right. Otherwise, there is the extremly well done freeware C172 by Alan Fletcher (also known as Wide Screen Panel Project), which has by far the most features a C172 currently has in X-Plane. And of course there is Carenado's C172, which mainly shines through her good 3D model. Quote
BWolf7 Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Sorry for overlooking Alan's c172, it is indeed amazing. I personally am not a Carenado fan.I have A2A's c172, it is the most realistic simulation I have experienced. FSX is the way to go if you are looking for high graphics and addons. Quote
Nicola_M Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) Things I expected - but are missing. Tips appreciated.- Stock 3D cockpits are incomplete. Not all of the stock aircraft have 3D cockpits. In particular, the King Air B200, 747, 777 come to mind off the top of my head. But there are a few that do, like the C152, the Cirrus Jet, Stinson L5 to name a few. There are also some excellent free aircraft with 3D cockpits worth downloading, though:The AN-148 airliner - http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11584The Fokker F27 airliner - http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11933and many excellent free planes with 3D cockpits from xpfrance http://xpfr.org/index.php?body=aero_accueil - No checklists.Again, not many aircraft do. - Map size restriction - can't find VOR, ADF, ILS, GPS data easily for longer flights. This is done in your planning. Load the aircraft at your destination airport, and go into Local Map and you can then click on the airport for the info you need. Finally, reload your aircraft at the starting airport.Alternatively, download Goodway's free planner and you can plan flights with that, and it will give you waypoints, NDBs etc which you put into your FMS. http://xpgoodway.com/ - Aircraft operating instructions. ( e.g.. take off speed V1, Vr etc.)Most aircraft (not stock ones) often come with manuals that list that info. - Pushback missing. For 9.70, yes. Although here is a link to a plugin that was made that would do that - http://www.xpgoodwayteam.org/site_xpushback/Site/Welcome.html- Charts missing.Mostly you can get these off the internet. - Airport buildings missing.Unless someone has "made" an airport, then yes, you will have empty airports with just the bare runways showing. There are plenty of complete airports on the internet, and a good place to download free ones are at: http://theosdavis.com/xpfiles/downloads_v9.htmlhttp://xpfr.org/index.php?body=scene_accueilhttp://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=6 - Aircraft look blurry from outside view.Unsure - Cockpit instrument printing not clearChange your Resolution from Medium to High or Very High or Extreme. Kyle Sanders Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 Nicola_M pretty much said it... But just because the local view does not "see" outside the area printed does not mean you can't tune to that VOR/NAVAID. Check our websites like SKYVECTOR.com and tune in the NAVAID you want. It will tune in realistically. Also be sure you get the most up to date NavData for X-Plane. Google "X-Plane NavData download" Good luck! Best Regards, Kyle Sanders X-Plane Aviators Founder Quote
