I have 2 problems right now with the FMS:

1. I can't figure out how to change the origin or destination airport after I have added them. I have tried going to the FPLN and LEGS pages and retyping the ICAO name in scratch pad then clicking 1LK. Sometimes it says "INVALID ENTRY", sometimes nothing happens at all. It seems very tempermental based on the order I move through the pages and add information. In other words, the first time I try to change the airport from the FLPN page it says INVALID ENTRY, then go to LEGS page and try (nothing happens this time) then go back and try again on FPLN page (instead of INVALID ENTRY, this time nothing happens when I click 1LK).

2. When programming the flight plan, I first go to FPLN screen, then type "KMIA" in scratch pad then click 1LK to set it as the origin airport. Then, I go to DEP/ARR page and select <DEP, then choose Runway 12 & "EONNS1.12" to select my SID. Next, I want to add my route, I go back to FPLN screen (pg. 2) and type A509 airway then click 1LK to add to VIA - this immediately crashes X Plane. Also notice, in the VIA field, there was no "---", just blank space. Again, I have noticed this has something to do with the order I move through the FMS pages and add information, if for example I first add BOTH the origin AND destination airports BEFORE adding the SID then this bug doesn't seem to happen. Any ideas?

Thanks....

1. You have to change and insert new departure or arrival airports in the same page you inserted them. So Dep and Arr airports part. Inside the FPLN first page. Not in LEGs page. If you insert the departure it will remove all other points you programmed before, so it is a good way to reset the fms.

2. Always first set the departure and arrival airports. Once you do that go to dep/arrival page and select the SID you want (or just the runway of your choise). Then go to route and fill your flight plan.. You can select the STAR of your arrival in flight. Or if you want after you filled all the flight plan.

Well as you saw if you fill first the airport of start and destination the bug doesn't occur... Meanwhile Philipp has to check this out.

Japo,

I think I figured out the problem. It looks like you cannot change the airports until AFTER you make the flight plan active by pressing "EXEC". Does this make sense, or maybe my installation has a bug?

Thanks...

If you want to change the destination:

Enter a new destination to the RLSK1 field of the ACTIVE flightplan.

If you want to enter a completely new flightplan:

Enter a new departure to the LLK1 field of the ACTIVE flightplan. As you found out, the flightplan must have been executed at least once, because otherwise there simply is no ACTIVE flightplan, it is empty, as all changes initially go to the MOD flightplan.

You can't enter departure or destination airport on the LEGS page - you must do it on the FPLN page. Take a look at how it is done in the tutorial! Entering airports on the LEGS page only works on Airbus-style FMS like the Honeywell Pegasus or the Thales 2. Not on the Rockwell Collins FMS of the CRJ, at least that's what the original training document says.

Also, you can't enter a VIA airway directly from a runway. You have to have either a SID or a DIRECT leg inbetween. Both those LEGS (an airway after the SID or a DIRECT), require that the destination airport is entered beforehand.

Again, the tutorial is your friend.

Thanks Phillip,

The only thing I was missing was a tutorial that actually showed me how to change the airport. I had to find out through trial and error that I had to first use EXEC. I guess that while the tutorial is my friend, sometimes the forums are more friendly than the tutorial.

First read the manuals then ask. There are changes from the manual in some things like this exe function but all changes are related inside the txt that specify what changed in each version.
