FANS logon

I've been trying to use the CPDLC for a few flights now, but every time I try to logon using FANS, it tries connecting to the FIR but eventually says " timed out". I am able to receive datalink clearances just fine, but I am having trouble with the CPDLC way for doing anything. Can anybody explain the entire process for getting this to work? I am not sure if I am missing anything or doing something wrong. Thanks!

I'm not sure any of that is actually simulated.. like the weather radar...its an xplane thing, I couldn't get it to work neather.

you can get atis sometimes,but that's all. To get winds aloft it's actually in the flight plan management page.
