allegro Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Hi all,I tried a flight last night - handflying without any interaction with the FMC. The plane ran well for the most part but I noticed that the NAV radios continually were resetting - it appeared to be auto-setting itself to the nearest VOR - or at least, a nearby VOR. Is this expected? If so, is there some way to get it to not do that?
Japo32 Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Please read the tutorial. The solution to your "problem" is there. Thanks.
bokepacha Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 auto-setting itself to the nearest VORThere is your problem and your solution, as Javier said, is in the manual/tutorial.
YYZatcboy Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 I've also noticed that it seems to set to random VOR's and Courses. I know it's not a CRJ but on the 737 it autotunes based on your route of flight. So if I am on an airway it will autotune to the VOR's on that airway. Does the CRJ not do the same thing. (I will look again in the manual later, just getting ready for work, to see if that is covered there)
philipp Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Nav autotune has NOTHING to do with your route. The only purpose of NAV autotune is to select suitable navaids for improving the accuracy of your position. Remember that GPS is a carrier option, and the early CRJs without GPS rely on IRS corrected by VOR/VOR or VOR/DME. Autotune has absolutely no idea of your route and what VORs are part of your flightplan, it just selects VORs not further away than 30nm perpendicular to your course.Philipp
YYZatcboy Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 And there is the answer. As I said, IIRC from my systems training on the 737NG it will autotune to waypoints along the route of flight. Thanks for clarifiying that this in fact does not happen on the CRJ.
