UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Ok, since I started flying on VATSIM, my frame rates will often randomly drop from maybe 84 like it did today, (Though I was on the ground, I usually get around 25-30), to a freeze. This happens constantly, and happens when something as simple as hitting a button on the FMC, (Like today), or texting a message, (The other freeze from today). Every time, I have to restart my Mac, and lose my flight. I run 9.68 on an Imac 27", OSX 10.5.8. Not sure of other hardware specs, however I usually have my rendering options set waaaaaaaay down.Edit: Re-Phrased title to be more accurate. Quote

UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 Not sure of other hardware specs,In other words, those are all the specs I know, what else would you need? I don't think it is prefs, as this has been consistent since about September, though I will delete them to be sure. Quote

Download this http://www.cpuid.com/ it will tell you what they are. It's hard helping someone if you don't have their specs. Quote
UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Ok, I'll try that. Results in maybe 20 minutes. Quote
Tonka Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Try downloading a fresh demo version of X-Plane, then install JUST the XSB/Vatsim plugin and try again. Quote

Are you sure that's for Mac, because PC wizard, which it seemed was the one I should use, said Windows 7/Vista. Tonka, I'll try that, I'm assuming you mean uninstall X-Plane, remove the disk, re-install, or do that with the disk in? Quote

And what Tonka means is download the X-Plane Demo from the X-Plane website rather than uninstalling your whole XP install. Quote

It'll give you everything you need to know. Quote
UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 Sorry it took so long, here you are:Intel Core 2 DuoiMac5,1 (Model ID, not sure what that means)1 processor2 cores1 Gig of memoryEdit: Just realized that my hard drive is pretty full, and I have an external hard drive which has much more space. Do you think putting everything related to X-Plane (It's a family computer) on that hard drive would help?Edit 2: Fantastic. Deleted prefs, and my whole computer crashed when setting up my joystick. Not exactly a JOYstick right now.Edit 3: Reinstalled XSB. Froze during taxi. Quote
UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 Just tried Tonka's solution. For those familiar with Philly southbound departures on VATSIM, it was at 3000 feet, 8.5 NM from OOD Woodstown. Barely anywhere. Quote
Tonka Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Does the log.txt give any errors? Attach it here if you are unsure. So are you saying that it is still crashing, with a fresh copy of X-Plane and just the XSB plugin? Have you added any CSL's to the plugin perhaps?Does X-Plane crash at all if you do not fly online, but still have AI aircraft cruising around? Quote
UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 Log said something about XSB loading errors, and I had some CSLs in. Do you think thats it?Log.txt Quote

Tonka Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 XSB Doesn't appear to be installed correctly, and the Python Interface isn't loading. With that fresh, un-modified version of X-Plane that you downloaded, add the XSB plugin, again from a fresh download, making sure to follow all the instructions, and try again. Without any extra CSL's or Plugins.1 - Find your freshly downloaded X-Plane install,2 - Find the download page for XSB and donwload it,3 - Unzip the XSB download and find the instuctions or readme,4 - Move the XSB plugin and folder to the X-Plane/Resources/Plugins folder, in accordance to the XSB install instructions,5 - Try again. As for the Python Interface problem, Sandy Barbour will be able to help more, but i think you might have the wrong version installed. If all else fails with XSB, you might have a network problem, or something else i am unaware of, so i won't be able to help further. UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 I'll try that, minus the Python problem. I uninstalled it (well, from how I "Installed It") and will try again tonight. Quote
UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 Ok, just froze offline, with just "The Jet", at LOWI. Totally new prefs, everything. Back to square 1 unfortunately.Edit: On a side note, I barely have any hard drive space. I mean barely. I have because of this eliminated all European default scenery I have, as well as a good chunk of the Pacific Island scenery and Northern Alaska. I now have scenery only for the Caribbean, Continental US, Southern Canada, and parts of Mexico. Quote
UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 18, 2011 Author Report Posted May 18, 2011 This might help:Running out of RAM will cause crashes as well. At least 1 GB of RAM should be used for current versions of X-Plane (more on Windows Vista and Windows 7). This also assumes that the computer is not overclocked. Quote
UH-60 Blackhawk Posted May 20, 2011 Author Report Posted May 20, 2011 New symptom-Whushing sound (Whop whop whop whop etc.) once x-plane is loaded at LOWI, with absolutely no default or custom scenery there. Again, immediate freeze.Solved Somewhat-Moved X-Plane to laptop. Quote
