FMC guidance please

I am considering buying pilot2atc but unsure on a few procedures with theIXEG. 

If atc tells me to fly runway heading until say 5000 ft the turn heading 087 to intercept my route... I will do that with AP or hand fly.. This may mean I miss a couple of points in my route.. So how or what do I do to intercept route and continue with LNAV guidance? 

 

Also enroute my approach or star may change.. I guess instructions for that are in the manual?

so after some reading, I think I just chose the waypoint I want, choosing DIRECT, then press VNAV? but I may have misunderstood......

 

as for point to I think I just change it which brings a MOD on screen then execute, again I may be misunderstanding though...
