    DMax Releases Blackshape Prime

Autopilot? Schmautopilot... Frankly, I would love to see the variant of this aircraft with the available analog avionics package. IMHO, a small sport plane like this begs to be flown old-school. (See page 20 of the actual Blackshape Prime brochure)
  2. I'll take one of these, especially in TWA livery.
  3. This completely neuters the purpose of what I thought would become an excellent centralized reference for those wishing to update their aircraft to 64-bit compatibility. It's too bad you are letting your personal experiences [biases] with the Org get in the way. That said, I offer the following suggestions: 1. Ask the moderators to edit the title of this thread to include "except those available exclusively at the Org" so that we'll know in advance the list will be incomplete. or 2. Add an indication to items in your list stating exclusive availability at the Org and let the readers decide for themselves.
  4. I'm in for the entire chain...
  5. Let me see if I have this correct... You really like the 777, enough to threaten buying it, but you insist upon refusing yourself the pleasure of flying it for what is essentially a political reason? Why not simply move on and enjoy yourself? Why give them the satisfaction of ruining your day?
  6. Haswell is the codename for Intel's next generation CPU architecture. Along with new CPU architectures typically comes new chipsets for the motherboards built to accommodate the new CPUs. In a nutshell, the design targets somewhat better performance per clock pulse, lower power consumption, and better integrated graphics. (For you beer drinkers: Tastes great, less filling!) There is plenty to read out there about Haswell, but here are a few articles to get you started.
  7. I am not suggesting that AMD has a "problem" at all, as I have also been using AMD GPUs since early version 8 of X-Plane. What has been stated often both here and at the .Org is that Nvidia OpenGL driver performance has been proven to be better on Windows machines, and for that reason my next flightsim rig will have an Nvidia GPU. If the performance of your AMD GPU is meeting your expectations, then by all means, enjoy it! Edit: Fixed a couple of typos...
  8. ... only for OpenGL, which is what X-Plane uses. For DirectX applications, AMD is quite strong.
  9. The Intel 'K' suffix CPUs are designed to have a fair amount of overclocking headroom, but they are not any faster than the standard CPUs unless you do actually overclock them. At Newegg, there is a $30 difference between the 3770 and 3770K. Choose accordingly.
  10. The issues are not necessarily with X-Plane. It is a driver issue, specifically OpenGL implementation. The Nvidia drivers have been much better than ATI's for Windows machines. So, for X-Plane, you would be more satisfied with the performance of the GTX 680.
  11. A common affliction among the most highly intelligent elite in our society. You know, that thing they say about the light bulb shining brightest just before it burns out...
  12. Seems to be a bit of that going around...
  13. So why not just register at the Org so that you can?
  14. ^^^ Read this (and follow the links in it as well, especially the FAQ) for how 64bit will affect X-Plane.
  15. These have become my favorite set. For those who have the GPU horsepower to run the 4K textures, you might also want to obtain the cirrus patch. It is not required if using the 2k textures here.
  16. Refreshing! Resistance is NOT futile! I am relatively new here myself and have found that the environment here seems to be much less confrontational. The "Borg" have some very 'angry' individuals posting regularly. Clearly, they have other personal demons to deal with. So whatever aircraft or other X-Plane issue they are complaining about is clearly not their biggest problem. I like this place.
  17. For those that are running the latest stable release of X-Plane (10.11), there are similar performance improvements as shown below: X-Plane Version 10.11 (32-bit only) AMD Catalyst 12.10 --fps_test=1 FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.3, frames=5351, fps=57.34 GPU LOAD: time=93.3, wait=6.1, load=6.6% --fps_test=2 FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.9, frames=3490, fps=37.16 GPU LOAD: time=93.9, wait=5.7, load=6.1% --fps_test=3 FRAMERATE TEST: time=103.2, frames=1882, fps=18.24 GPU LOAD: time=103.2, wait=9.4, load=9.1% --fps_test=4 FRAMERATE TEST: time=102.7, frames=1912, fps=18.61 GPU LOAD: time=102.7, wait=6.5, load=6.4% --fps_test=5 FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.5, frames=5337, fps=57.09 GPU LOAD: time=93.5, wait=18.4, load=19.7% ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X-Plane Version 10.11 (32-bit only) AMD Catalyst 13.1 --fps_test=1 FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.4, frames=5915, fps=63.34 +10.5% GPU LOAD: time=93.4, wait=6.1, load=6.5% --fps_test=2 FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.9, frames=3899, fps=41.54 +11.8% GPU LOAD: time=93.9, wait=5.7, load=6.1% --fps_test=3 FRAMERATE TEST: time=97.3, frames=1946, fps=19.99 +9.6% GPU LOAD: time=97.3, wait=10.0, load=10.3% --fps_test=4 FRAMERATE TEST: time=96.7, frames=2032, fps=21.02 +12.9% GPU LOAD: time=96.7, wait=6.0, load=6.2% --fps_test=5 FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.4, frames=5865, fps=62.81 +10% GPU LOAD: time=93.4, wait=20.3, load=21.8%
  18. AMD Catalyst 13.1 is definitely worth the upgrade as it improves X-Plane framerates from 8.4% up to 12.6%. I arrived at this conclusion after having run the command-line FPS test on XP10.20b11 both with Catalyst 12.10 and 13.1. See below: X-Plane Version 10.20b11 (64-bit) AMD Catalyst 12.10 --fps_test=1FRAMERATE TEST: time=92.8, frames=5233, fps=56.39 GPU LOAD: time=92.8, wait=6.8, load=7.3% --fps_test=2FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.0, frames=2801, fps=30.11 GPU LOAD: time=93.0, wait=7.8, load=8.4% --fps_test=3FRAMERATE TEST: time=94.7, frames=2175, fps=22.97 GPU LOAD: time=94.7, wait=10.4, load=11.0% --fps_test=4FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.8, frames=2579, fps=27.49 GPU LOAD: time=93.8, wait=7.4, load=7.9% --fps_test=5FRAMERATE TEST: time=92.9, frames=4998, fps=53.81 GPU LOAD: time=92.9, wait=13.9, load=15.0% ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ X-Plane Version 10.20b11 (64-bit) AMD Catalyst 13.1 --fps_test=1FRAMERATE TEST: time=92.8, frames=5674, fps=61.13 +8.4% GPU LOAD: time=92.8, wait=7.1, load=7.6% --fps_test=2FRAMERATE TEST: time=92.9, frames=3152, fps=33.92 +12.6% GPU LOAD: time=92.9, wait=9.8, load=10.6% --fps_test=3FRAMERATE TEST: time=94.2, frames=2390, fps=25.38 +10.5% GPU LOAD: time=94.2, wait=13.4, load=14.3% --fps_test=4FRAMERATE TEST: time=93.6, frames=2844, fps=30.40 +10.6% GPU LOAD: time=93.6, wait=8.5, load=9.1% --fps_test=5FRAMERATE TEST: time=92.9, frames=5515, fps=59.39 +10.4% GPU LOAD: time=92.9, wait=16.1, load=17.3%
  19. The problem is that more and more composite materials are making their way into aircraft construction. The 787, for example, is predominantly built of composites. You simply cannot get that polished look that AA had all these years with it. The livery change, much to most people's dismay, has become a necessary evil. I agree with most here the new style leaves a bit to be desired.
  20. They [the FAA] grounded them for lithium-ion battery issues. Most here are likely too young to remember, but the 747 had teething problems as well when it was new back in the late sixties. Now it has earned quite a following. Any aircraft that is as radically new as the 787 is going to have some issues. I have every confidence that Boeing will sort them all out without major incident.
  21. You'll have to find out for yourself how that 8350 will work for X-Plane. As for a suitable cooler, it will depend how much you will try to overclock it. If you need to keep the cooler under $50, you might not be able to overclock it quite as much. I prefer coolers from Noctua, Phanteks and Thermalright. Perhaps they will have one that fits your budget. Good luck!
  22. There is no Intel bias for the benchmarks I linked you to. All CPUs are listed at stock speeds. You need to understand that Nr of Cores X Clock Speed does not equal work done equally between all CPU architectures. I have been an AMD fan for a long time (see also my sig) and have learned that the current Intel CPUs get more done per core per clock pulse than AMD CPUs do. Right now, I'd take the Intel i7 3770K which offers the best bang-for-the-buck, particularly for running X-Plane. Rendering programs employ far more threads than X-Plane will, and the 8-core FX8350 may very well be fine for that. That's why I built a quad GTX680 rendering machine for my son (an architect) that renders with 1536 x 4 GPU cores using OctaneRender and V-Ray RT. Kieran is correct stating X-Plane drives the GPU with one thread.
  23. You can organize to your heart's content, just as long as you leave any file that is part of an X-Plane installation or update intact.
  24. [hijack] For X-Plane, that AMD processor doesn't have the single thread performance required to feed the GTX 680. Better to use the best i7 you can afford. [hijack]
