gercarst
Great pictures Tom, been following this beauty patiently for many years. But it will be totally worth it! Edit: By the way, when it's time to add the manipulators, please don't forget us VR users! Edited August 19, 2021 by gercarst

We did a comprehensive VR pass on the IXEG, so it shouldn't be any trouble. -tkyler
tkyler
MAJOR milestone finally. the 3D is substantially complete (99.9%). Its been a tad over 2 years since I began the rework..and the 3d model is completely new from scratch and detailed enough that I should never have to update the 3D again ....tweaks and refinements yes...major rework, no! All the difficult 3D (mechanisms and linkages) is complete and animated. I'll add in 3D detail as I continue, but I am now to the point where I can begin UV unwrap this week and begin texturing soon. I'm really looking forward to this upcoming phase. -tkyler Edited August 22, 2021 by tkyler 8

tkyler
first insim shot of the WIP texturing. This is by no means "what will ship", I'm still playing with colors, woods, fabrics and am undecided on the final look of the interior, etc, but at the least you can start to get an idea of how things are going to look in sim. tkyler
the fun is beginning. It took nearly 2 weeks to unwrap and bake lighting into the cockpit 3D geometry, but with that out of the way, time to start applying the good stuff. The 2nd screenshot shows things insim, but without any of the special texture effects applied yet, so it looks a bit flat at the moment. The goal was to get the efis screens up and running. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Garmin G500 shown will NOT...repeat WILL NOT be included with the MU2 2.0. It is a separate product produced by "Real Sim Gear" and sold through X-Aviation and will need to be purchased separately. That being said, when you do purchase and install it, then there will be an additional preference in the MU2 preferences to use the G500. But who wouldn't want to use some modern glass in the Moo eh? daemotron
That'll be an excellent bird, looking very much forward to flying it! Speaking of modern glass, the GTN 750 would be a great companion for the G500. Any plans to (optionally) integrate it into the 3D cockpit?

I just have to drag out my windows machine and set it up so I can install it. Such an effort would follow a stable release though. 3

Tail Dragger
A Linux version of the Mu is probably illusory?

One of our dev team prefers Linux and I've been working on getting it(Gizmo) working again for him. Some minor things don't work. This would also unlock the DC3/IXEG/Saab/etc. Edited November 2, 2021 by Ben Russell
mjrhealth
Would be nice for linux. I think the invasiveness on win 12 may push some of us to Linux, especially if we are forced to update.
tkyler
I think I have all the cockpit variation graphics/decals done. Next up is to start the 'realistic effects' texturing...metallics...shiny...wear and tear and grime, etc.
tkyler
in sim shot of texturing WIP. Again, Garmin 500 NOT included with MU2. See above post.
tkyler
few more insim shot with the OEM panel WIP. Lot of back and forth between texturing and XP tweaking the lighting effects. Xplane is famously 'dark' in its rendering of black surfaces. XP12 might be better. tkyler
I've been holding out a bit.....leaving out the good effects until I was far enough along...so...after quite a bit of tweaking...to the 98% level (I still see several touch up things needed)...here's essentially the 2.0 cockpit inside Xplane in all its glory. ( Garmin radio stack version) and some close up details. This should be awesome for the VR folks. Next up is the cabin texturing.... that shouldn't take too long. After that, I'll start working all the animations and controls in the cockpit and tweaking the flight model. Then, its onto the exterior livery texturing, then the final pieces will be the the sound engineering and documentation. Moving along!
