Flight Planner

As Goodway slowly ages and more complex FMS (CRJ to be out soon, vasFMC etc.) and GPS (like http://www.eadt.eu/index.php?kln90b) find their way into xplane, I thought it might be a good idea to collect links to Flight Planning Tools or online services. I'll start with this one: FlightPlanPro, which is intended for real world use, free of charge (is in beta and always updated before the expiry date) and available for Win, Mac and Lin. Its focus is europe. Get it here and try it out:

I only hit the surface of its capabilities yet.

And please share your tools.

This is incredible.  I've yet to try it in the sim as I'm reading through the documentation right now, but what a resource!  Updates with navigraph nav data (of course you must subscribe to navigraph for this function), is chock full of features, and assumes same functionality as the real unit except where explicitly stated in the manual (which is not that much stuff).  And it appears that our very own Theo and Javier had a hand in its creation as well.  Good jobs guys.

Check this one out!

As a real world pilot, I suggest either going to www.flightaware.com and using their planner, or is you are re-creating a real flight, use past data and use their waypoints.  For example, you can input two airports and see any aircraft that are/have flown between the two.  From there, click the appropriate tail number and see what they used. Its quick, easy, and what us real-world guys do if we're flying an unfamiliar route.  Typically, ATC has certain routes they'd like you to fly, and its easier to input one to them that they're going to approve (Cleared as filed...), than to accept an amended clearance (expect radar vectors... yadda yadda yadda) and have to enter it in on the fly.

It's amazing, very cool GPS!

Only downside is that it uses SASL and crashes my sim when I have gizmo installed.  This I logically tested  :) by removing gizmo and having it work flawlessly every time then re-testing with gizmo installed and having it crash every time.  But, a nice piece of kit nonetheless!

It does now seem to cover Europe. I've just been looking at France on it.

Nicola is spot on as usual :)

But if you just want Europe charts that you can download and print out, you may be interested in this:

EUROCONTROL Regional Charts

The new EUROCONTROL Regional Charts (ERC) are a combination of the former Airspace Management Planning Charts (ASM) and the Central Flow Management Planning Charts (CFMU). These 12 ERC charts are based on EAD data. Currently, only the Upper airspace is currently available on-line, lower airspace will follow at a later stage.

And as Nicola says: Don't forget that SkyVector also offers FREE on-line Enroute mapping.
