  2. Thanks a lot for the compliments Andreas
  3. Hello Jim, As ointment pointed out, you should go via the "File Library" to see the screenshots. Hello Andy, Thanks, and glad you like it - though it took me quite a long time to finish it... Greetings from Munich Andreas
  4. File Name: Southern DC3 - ZK-AMY File Submitter: Aegen File Submitted: 25 Oct 2014 File Category: Vintage X-Plane Version(s): X-Plane 9 & 10 Livery For: Click Here For Aircraft This is a livery-paint for the LES DC3. It depicts the Southern DC3 ZK-AMY – more or less, within the restrictions of the model, skills – and time available. While i've been working on this for quite a long time, life 's been quicker than me – when i started this paint-job for the LES DC3, ZK-AMY was still flying, operated by the Southern DC3 Trust in Canterbury, New Zealand, on scenic flights over Christchurch or charters around Canterbury. The maintenance service fallen due at the end of January this year would have taken the Southern DC3 Trust $50.000 to get ZK-AMY through, so the Trust decided to retire her. ZK-AMY was gifted to the Ashburton Aviation Museum where she is on exhibition now. Main exterior paint files (fuselage and wings) are in 4K resolution, which allows really high detail. A lot of effort was laid in detailed an accurate rivets and platelines in combination with enhanced normals to achieve a highly detailed surface. Cockpit paint files try to come close to the real one. The model's layout is somewhat different from the original so a couple of elements were added to to reproduce the look and feel of the AMY's panel and cockpit appearance. The passenger cabin also gives an impression of the AMY's one cabin within the possibilities of the model. The main files are in 4K too for better detail. How to install: Unzip "SouthernDC3_ZK-AMY" to a temp-folder. Place folder named "SouthernDC3_ZK-AMY" in the "Douglas DC-3" liveries folder. For X-Plane 9: Some of the exterior and cabin textures are in 4K resolution for better detail, so if you use XP9, place the 2K files in the "XP9_2K"-folder into the "SouthernDC3_ZK-AMY /objects"-folder, overwriting the existing 4K-ones. If you like to use the added propdisk with white/red/white tips, just place the file "LES_Douglas_DC-3(Wheels)_prop" in the "X-Aviation/Douglas DC-3" main-folder, overwriting the existing file (backup-file of the original one included). Have fun and hope you enjoy it. Andreas Click here to download this file

  6. Hello, yes your'e right, we're really enjoying our travel, great and interresting country, lovely and nice people. Shure have to come here once again, to have much more time exploring exciting San Francisco- and there's such a lot of things and places left to see. BWolf7, thanks for the invitation, unfortunately we have allready passed Palo Alto on our way from LA to SF. Now we're headin back south along the coast on Hgw #1 back to LA, further on to Las Vegas, from where we will make a roundtrip over Grand Canyon. Cheers and greetings Andreas
  7. Hello, not yet, sorry for that. I'm on a three weeks vacation at the time ( travelling around California, it's absolutely awesome here). Before that my job and real life didn't leave me enough time for carrying on with the ZK-AMY. So i hope i will have some time when i'm back home end of next week. greetings from Monterey Andreas
  8. The dents in the fuselage are not caused by the crash landing. I checked a lot of photos of the Rosinenbomber for making it's livery, and they can be seen on all of them. I always wondered about these deep dents, beeing caused by ice breaking from the prop blades seems to be a good explanation for me.
  9. Hello Gjalp, thanks for the compliments, glad you like it. I really enjoy making this livery paint. Added a screenshot of the cockpit. It's all still in progess, nothing's finished yet, but it gives a first impression. Hello eaglewing7, yes, that makes much more sense. I always was not so convinced with my explanation, as an additional layer of Aluminium wouldn't give much more protection from heavy strikes. This would also explain the deep dents, the german Rosinenbomber D-CXXX has around it's front door. Both to bee seen on this picture of the Rosinenbomber after it's crash-landing in Berlin in 2010: http://www.bz-berlin.de/multimedia/archive/00270/rosinenbomber-besu_27010728.jpg Greetings from Munich Andreas
  10. Hello, it's been some time, till now i've almost finished the exterior of ZK-AMY. Changes are mostly in the details, as further adjusted detail in the normals of rudder, elevators and ailerons, fine tuning of letterings and fuselage paint, and some more. Finally i realized (rather late, while checking the pictures) that the AMY isn't fitted with the double layered plates in the front part of the fuselage, giving some more protection from the prop blades in case of an accident. It's some kind of special, almost all DC3s are equipped with these plates, the AMY is not. Will go on with the cockpit and interior next - and keep you informed. Added some pictures of WIP, placed in the Christchurch scenery by chris k, to show her in her home environment. This scenery is a really amazing one (though it brings my old machine – first MacPro, 2006 – to it's limits in addition with the DC3 and 4K paint files). Guess i will explore it some times in the default C172. Greetings from Munich Andreas
  11. Hello Leen, hello Gjalp, Thanks a lot for your compliments, really appreciate that. Yes you're right, normals are really magic indeed, and absolutely fascinating, allowing to create an additional surface with all those details. And i want to thank you for the discussions Leen, your hint about the real DC3 you saw and that the surface is not so perfectly aligned at all. Without that (and your outstanding paintwork) these liveries wouldn't be what they are now. (Probably i would have stopped at the state of the "Rosinenbomber" as a base for further paintings) I remembered that there are two DC3s on display round Munich (which have been a very good reference) and i went on in reworking and improving the whole thing. So - thanks a lot Andreas
  12. Hello Leen, hello Gjalp, thanks very much for the compliments. Just downloaded the C-GPNR for a short flight – Leen thats so amazing, really love yours too!!! Great work – exterior, cockpit and cabin really show the appearance of Buffalo's very special DC3s. Iv'e added some further shots of the C-GWIR and ZK-AMY, included some close ups. Maybe can send some of our current heat here to New Zealand, to warm up Your cold winter days, Gjalp. For fuselage and wing files i checked out the 4K resolution, which allows really high detail. As all the rivets and platelines, as i created them, are vector-based, scaling the whole thing up with full advantage of the higher resolution was just simple. It's really a great difference comparing to the Swissair with it's 2K exterior paint files i think, and the basics are almost the same. So still a couple of things to do with both of them, finetunig the letterings, smootting transitions of wings and fuselage, adding the two (fake) windows, details round the front escape hatch on the right hand side for the AMY – and cockpit and cabin files. Normals and speculars will need some modifications too, and i'm always excited about checking out further details that can be achieved with this. So- it's been getting late.... hope you like the pictures added. Greetings from Munich Andreas
  13. Hello Gjalp, yes, will send some more screen shots the next days. Of course it's' winter on your southern hemisphere, have to remember this, as we are having the first really warm summer days here (after a long and cold winter, and springtime hardly to recognize) we enjoyed the evening with friends in a beer garden So hope your winter won't be too cold and strong Greetings from Munich Andreas
  14. Hello Gjalp, Thanks for the compliments, it's really fun and interesting making that livery paint- I'm afraid it will take a couple of weeks until it's finished- with cockpit and cabin paints included. Greetings from Munich Andreas
  15. Hello, some weeks before this thread started i picked up a Buffalo one for another livery paint for the LES DC3 (a bird which fascinates me making liveries for). I choose the C-GWIR 'cause it's paint scheme it most different from he default one and an interesting approach in some more modern appearance in my eyes. Remarkable is Buffalo's consistency in corporate design, the blue green colour as the constant image element – even for the cockpit crew. So this thread took my interest of course, and i decided to put the C-GWIR in an hold position an pick up Gjalp's request for the New Zealand Southern DC3. A bird i learned to like very much during research and work, with it's classical dark blue stripes along the windows - and the Southern Cross on it's tail. So here are some screenshots of the ZK-AMY and the C-GWIR as well (WIP at this time, still al lot of things to do) Greetings from Munich Andreas
  16. Sorry, wanted to vote 5 stars - was too late in the evening, and it seems i can't change it any more Andreas
  17. Hello Leen, your livery reminded me of the Rallye, i liked to fly and which is now updated to XP10. It's still a very nice, elaborated model (as all of XPFR) and your normals and speculars give it further detail. Thanks and greetings, Andreas
  18. Hello Leen, that's a great reproduction of the Hawk on Skyhawk. It was interested, looking if it had a real counterpart, and of course it did. Your're always picking up very special liveries for your perfectly elaborated paints. Thanks and greetings Andreas
  19. Hello Leen, just downloaded the Tomahawk to look at your livery – that's great, another superb paint, making the x-plane world more colourful – and with all those fine little details (looking at the footsteps on the walkways…) I really like flying around in switzerland. Thanks and greetings, Andreas
  20. File Name: DC3 Swissair HB-IRD File Submitter: Aegen File Submitted: 25 May 2013 File Category: Vintage X-Plane Version(s): X-Plane 9 & 10 Livery For: Click Here For Aircraft This is a livery-paint for the LES DC3. It depicts – more or less – within the restrictions of the model, the Swissair-DC3 HB-IRD. This was one of several ex-military DC-3/C-47s Swissair bought in 1946/47. It was built as C47B-5-DK with USAAF serial 43-48793 and flew for Swissair from 1946, used as a freighter, operating postal services. In 1950 it was sold to Israel where it was in service for Arkia and the Israeli Air Force. In 1999 it was transferred to the USA, registered as N472D and flew until 2006. Swissair planes in this period had an overall bare metal skin, logo and lettering on the fuselage and the red fin with the white swiss-cross. Although i'm aware that real reflections on a shiny bare metal skin can't be exactly reproduced in X-Plane, i tried to give it the appearance of such a surface. As just for a bare metal skin the lines of rivets and platelines determine the appearance a lot, my aim was to depict these as accurate as possible, added normal-maps to reproduce the uneven riveted surface and 3d-detail. As there's only one paint-file available for both of the wings, the big registration markings on top and underneath the wings can't be reproduced. The livery includes cockpit and cargo-cabin, adapted from the pictures available at the eth-library as far as possible within the possibilities of the model. Though colours are merely an assumption as these photos are black and white only. The plane in it's early configuration as shown here had no de-icing-systems, so be careful and avoid flying in icy weather conditions (markings on the related switches are removed - of course the system would work if you turn them on). I want to thank LES for their exceptionally model of the DC3 and most of all Leen de Jager, whose paintwork and discussions gave me a lot of hints and inspiration. How to install: Unzip "Swissair_HB-IRD" to a temp-folder and read the "_readme_first.pdf": Place folder named "Swissair_HB-IRD" in the liveries folder. For X-Plane 9: The cabin-textures are in 4K resolution for better detail, so if you use XP9, place the 2K cabin-files in the "Cabin_XP9_2K"-folder into the "Swissair_HB-IRD/objects"-folder, overwriting the existing 4K-ones. If you like to use the added propdisk with a slightly grey shade to reproduce the reflections of the metal propblades in front of dark backgrounds, just pace the file "LES_Douglas_DC-3(Wheels)_prop" in the "X-Aviation/Douglas DC-3" main-folder, overwriting the existing file (backup-file of the original included) Have fun and hope you enjoy it. 22. Hello, it's been some time, and i'm still working on the Swissair-livery. Almost finished the exterior, maybe with some little things to be done like transitions between fuselage and wings. Will then move to the interior, cockpit and (cargo-) cabin. So i wanted to show some screenshots of what it looks at this time. Greetings from Munich Andreas
  23. Hello Martin, thanks for the information and the link to recent photos, really appreciate that Greetings Andreas
