  1. They actually confirmed going into the x-plane add on production. Leen
  2. My apologies for my late reaction. The problem however is solved. I had X-Plane installed under Programfiles in Vista. Now I know , never install X-Plane in Windows "Programfiles" In programfiles X-Plane cannot create certain files. Vista solves this problem and stores that files "elswhere" outside "programfiles". Deleting and re-installing X-Plane , does not remove that old thrash "elswhere" Elswhere = AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files (x86) Cheers Leen de Jager
  3. Hi guys, Last month I did some repaints for the wonderfull Robin ( FREEWARE by Pascal Juge XP-France ) Its strange this beautifull little birds gets so little attention on this forum. Maybe this will help. This is far better than many payware planes released recently. http://www.dutchfs.com/crew/leen/X-Plane/roodborst.png http://www.dutchfs.com/crew/leen/X-Plane/breitling2.png Leen de Jager
  4. Can you explain what you mean with "glaring problems" ? I cannot understand the post above is the only reaction to this really great piece of freeware. This is really someting wich deserves more attention. ( I think , I simply am in love with the little bird) http://www.dutchfs.com/crew/leen/X-Plane/roodborst.png http://www.dutchfs.com/crew/leen/X-Plane/breitling2.png Leen de Jager
  5. Just a smal question. Reading the tutorial I get the impression the max value of the shiny rat setting is 1.0. I made several paints having a very shiny varnished propellor with metal edges. For this I used the value 3.0 with great succes. Making a bare metal plane with this setting would result in a plane as painful for the eyes as a real aircraft in the tropics. So for me I think 100% can be shiny rat 3.0 ( I did not try a higher number) All parts wich cannot use such a high value ( e.g tires) can be infulenced by the specular in the normal file. This way its even possible to have non glossy tires on polished and glossy hubs with dito brakedisks. Best regards and a big thank you for the tutorial. Leen de Jager
  6. Thanks pal. Very instructive. A good tutorial helps , see.....
  7. Can you give me a link to Jacks tutorial? Regards Leen
  8. I`ll try to explain in a nutshell. I opened the paintkit for this model and excluded all layers having color, decals, registration etc. This leaves us with a blank model only having lines and rivetlines. I save this as a png ( placed in the sim it would result in a white airplane) Now I opened this png in a program like Photoshop or Gimp ( in this case I used Gimp) This program has a filter wich enables us to make a bumpmapped png. Then the real work starts as this bumpmap has to be edited by hand to achieve an optimal result. I made this bumpfile in light blue transparent based on color 128.128.255 After this I added an alphalayer to the file. This greyscaled alpha enables us to play with the dynamics of the gloss on the model. And the obj file must be edited a bit. Thats it
  9. Hi Did some experiments. I added bumpmapping to the Stinson Sentinel. What do you think?
  10. Whahahaha.......thats a nice one. Investing in a strong rig is not a waiste of money. Some times ago I got myself a real nice rig capable of running FSX smoothly. Yes X-Plane is doing very wel on this machine ( almost all sliders to the max ) nevertheless we have to keep in mind the fact X-Plane is no longer the PC friendly sim it was in the past. I you want to run X-Plane with all its features you need a strong system. This magnificent plane will need some resources too I assume. Leen de Jager
  11. Best Wishes to all my X-Plane friends. Leen de Jager, The Netherlands http://dutchfs.com/crew/leen/christmas.png Card shows default Stinson Sentinel wearing a skin I made for her.
  12. People will move-over from MSFS to X-Plane I have no doubt about that. Its a question of time, models like the CRJ by Javier Rollon set the pace and are leaving the best MSFS add-ons far behind. There is no need for him to defend himself and explain the price of this beauty. The (former) MSFS-community is more than happy to pay good money for good stuff. They are used to paying for value. As I said before many guys are willing to pay for texturesets (skins)alone , as much or more than for the average complete X-Plane model. The X-Plane users will have to get used to higher prices and they will get the very best in return. We see a lot of nice but low quality airplanes for X-Plane offered as payware. Most of these planes should have been released as freeware i.m.h.o. This kind of add-on-planes would not have any chance on the MSFS add-on-market. In other words , these cheap/low-quality addons will vanish from the X-Plane market in time. (as payware, not as freeware) Leen de Jager PS I am involved in a commercial way in FS9/FSX-add-on production, so I exactly know what I am talking about.
  13. I have seen all reactions on the expected selling price. The price cannot be the problem for such a quality. X-Plane is a very cheap simulator to buy , FSX is much more expensive. ( X-Plane even runs smoother on older machines) Paying 40 50 60 70 USD for a model is quiet usual. There are people (many, many people) who buy a model for FSX and then buy several extra texturesets at McPhatStudios with a total worth of more than the model-add-on itself. http://www.mcphatstudios.net Real top-quality models may cost more and thats completely normal. When Mercedes launches a new model at 200,000 USD nobody is yelling "oh thats to expensive,I am not going to buy that" OK not everybody is going to buy it thats normal too. The fact not everybody has enough money to buy top products is not a reason not to make them. Leen de Jager
  14. Hi, There is something wich really puzzles me. I have been experimenting a bit with planemaker and I did some stupid things I think. As a result of this X-Plane did not start anymore due to an acf file I produced without having any obj file for it, in the general aviation folder.. I deleted the complete X-Plane 9 derectory and placed back a copy wich I had saved on another harddisk weeks ago. Strange enough the problem was still there. There even showed up in the aircraft-menu some planes who were present in the corrupted X-Plane version I deleted and which were NOT in the backup.( trying to launch these planes crashed X-Plane instantly , naturally because they are not present in the Aircraft directory) My conclusion : Contrary X-Plane says in its manual , deleting the X-Plane directory will remove ALL X-Plane stuff there must be some file somewhere outside the X-Plane folder. Now I renamed the X-Plane 9 folder to Austin`s Sim and everything worked fine again. The only thing I had to make again were my joystick/buttonsettings. So there must be some kind of file outside the X-Plane folder (maybe in the register??) My question is, what file and where to look for it? Leen de Jager
  15. Just a question about the textures. ( the model shows excellent ) Do you use cropped fuselage and wing textures ? As a repainter I am always hoping we will get uncropped textures wich can be painted in high quality , wich cannot be achieved on cropped ones. In other words , can I paint a circle on the fuse-texture without getting a wide unsharp oval on the model in sim? Best regards Leen de Jager
