I'll use flch or v/s to initiate a descent and once i've captured the vnav path i switch to vnav. Keep a close eye on it though... its not an a320!

Seriously stringden, just fly the airplane. I suggest you watch this video: There is a lot to master in any complex aircraft like this one. Stop worrying about being a passenger and actually fly the damn thing!
