  1. That video is awesome, the LES (or whoever it was) guys really got the sounds right. I noticed they fire up the right engine first? Thats the side the GPU is on? I thought you were supposed to start the left engine first, and then disconnect the GPU so those guys didnt get prop blasted on the right side?
  2. Hey man So it doesnt really hold the heading... its more a 'Flight Director'? I always seem to be slowly drifting right or left of my heading with autopilot on. I try to trim the plane as best I can before putting autopilot on. Is that just how she goes with an old plane? I didnt know if mine was working right or not. Thanks! edit: This post says I need to bind an autopilot heading hold to a button to get it to work? From 2017 though. Is there no button in the cockpit? Is this cheating? @Goran_M PS. Do the carb mix levers matter? Im not sure when to adjust those. This plane is still really great, lots of good flights.
  3. File Name: Saab 340A - Calm Air File Submitter: canox File Submitted: 22 May 2014 File Category: Heavy Metal X-Plane Version(s): X-Plane 10 Livery For: Click Here For Aircraft Hi! Here is my first custom livery for X-Plane. Calm Air International for the X-Aviation Saab 340A. I chose to paint this livery because its an airline close to home, and a fairly simple design to test my capabilities. (Painters note: I love the logo, hate the 'CalmAir' font) Presently, "All of Calmair's Saab 340s have been sold to other operators and are in the process of being replaced by ATR-42s and Dornier 328 Jets on scheduled passenger service routes." Fortunately we can still fly this simple/clean livery with our virtual Saab 340s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calm_Air "Calm Air International LP is an airline based in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada. 5. Hey man. I guess its all about setting up the FMS before you take off. Id still love to learn a big modern airliner. My cousin who got me into Xplane let me try the B777 on his setup, ended up in a nose dive.. those passenger screams will never leave me. For VoiceAttack.. it works exactly like a first officer. Im surprised at how easy this is to setup and how responsive the voice commands are. For the SAAB I have commands for air conditioning, auto coarsen, CTOT (I put the voice command as 'sea tow' lol.. you could try 'see toe'), prop sync, gears, flaps and AP disengage. I havnt even experimented with the macros.. Im sure theres a way I could say 'heading 320 degrees' and make the autopilot do it. Ill make a video for you to show how well it works. Edit: Ah Fraps keep crashing, dont know what is going on.
  6. Hey AJ glad to see youre still around. B772 is a big plane! Hows the switch to FMS flight planning? Ive been looking into using a program called VoiceAttack.. I wonder if it could work in X-Plane. From their site 'VoiceAttack will take commands you speak into your microphone and turn them into a series of keyboard key presses and mouse actions' For flying the SAAB with so many toggle switches.. just saying stuff like prop sync off or air condition on could decrease the workflow. About tweaking.. I dont think so man lol. Maybe if X-Plane had a 1000 man team like a Call of Duty game or something.. it could work out of the box without tweaking. Were in a niche minority of people who like to do interesting things. All the PC games I play are the same.. ArmA, X-Plane, Assetto Corsa. So much flexibility but lots of tweaking. Edit: I downloaded the trial (3 weeks free, 20 voice commands) and it works flawless. Just set up some basic commands like gears, flaps.. but its great. http://www.voiceattack.com/ Coming in on approach I just hit a toggle on my joystick.. say gears.. and my gears drop instantly. Its a co-pilot for $8 full version.. Ill see if I end up using it in the long run.
  7. Still flying the SAAB.. Been a few weeks but took her out for a spin around Lausanne..dicey approach but pulled a go around and 2nd try was on point Assetto Corsa racing simulator has been taking my time recently. Too much speed.. gotta hit the clear skies for some gentle flying. Roads? Where we're going.. we don't need roads.
  8. Hey Im still here too.. just busy as well. What kind of car did you buy? Thanks for the takeoff videos. I noticed your elevator trims are really high in the heavy weight takeoff (well compared to what I use). Im usually at the first white line at the bottom of the green arc. I found lower elevator trim helped me get more speed on the runway and a gentler rotation was required to keep speed on liftoff. I try not to pull back more than 10 degrees. I wonder what a 'normal' everyday weight setup in a SAAB 340 would be? How many passengers on avg. and how much fuel loaded per flight. Baggage weight limit. I like how this plane keeps you a rookie.. really need to set it up properly for different conditions. Help you learn a lot though.
  9. Yep, some good framerates for me in city areas too. Flying over Zurich with OSM and HD mesh.. no artifacts everything looks nice and running smooth. Andy10r which plane was giving you the problems?
  10. Bad experience today.. succumbed to hypoxia at 14,000 feet in the SAAB. Completely forgot how to set up the cabin pressure.. I had my landing alt set. AC was working fine. I thought it was supposed to take care of pressure automatically? My differential pressure was at 0.1 when I passed out... On a positive note I think I got my 'heavy' takeoffs on point. More flaps and a long runway is necessary it seems. When landing with heavy weight I find its also much easier to get a stable approach for landing set up. Any tips on anti-ice systems? I know I should put them on in colder weather and when in clouds.. what about very cold and dry weather? I was experimenting with the different anti-ice systems (prop, engine, surface de-icing) and was having a hard time figuring which was the best way to go about it. I was flying in -30C to- 40C weather in clear skies.
  11. I use HDR, but I havnt notice any red lines or anything else out of the ordinary yet. Will report if I do.
  12. Heh it was a graceful landing. SAAB swooped in, flapped its wings a bit then plopped right down
  13. Lol your first NZWN video it looks like youre landing a helicopter!
  14. Haha nice I like the gradient. The colour is just bleeding off because of the blistering speed of the SAAB 340 Alright post your experiences!
  15. Here is what I have so far. No logos yet.. maybe someone will guess.
  16. Hey man Whoa New York.. doin' it big time. We get a new noisey GPU sound when its connected and the props are smoothed out. Thx for the gimp tips.. wont the rivets still show if I just put my paint layer above the 'background' layer and save as PNG from there? Ill mess around with the layer settings anyway... Hardest part is getting the bands of colour to line up on the different sections of fuselage since they arent 'lined up' on the template. Edit: This 'multiply' setting you suggest is great... I was sort of stuck at that part. Im making lots of progress on my livery now! Ill be sure to post some pictures today sometime.. Take care
  17. How do you keep making it better John!!!?
  18. Beautiful update. Thank you Father LES. I feel a new based level. Best plane ever.
  19. Hey man, Did a bit of flying with the new SAAB and SMP update, loving the performance boost! New sounds in the SAAB are lovely too. Ive never set it up 'for real' for takeoff according to the docs.. Ill wait for your vid to show me how to do it lol. I always use max CTOT.. wouldnt that be best? Thanks for the flaps advice.. even 15 flaps and my 'heavy' takeoff was much smoother.. rotated before 105 and had no problems climbing out. (This is where I really love the FJS 727 takeoff card thing...) Painting a livery is going to take way longer than I thought! My first is just going to be colours overlayed on the background layer I guess.. Im not sure how to make it look shiney and contoured yet. Edit: Just noticed the paint kit doesnt have windows? Take care!
  20. Yea, close to max takeoff. All is good with 'normal' weight... Ill try the flaps. I also lowered my takeoff trim settings from what they usually are and that helped a bit. Also grabbed gimp.. gonna try my hand at liveries. See how it goes..
  21. I have a question though! Any tips for taking off with a lot of weight? I noticed in one of your vids you took off with 0 flaps.. I always use 7. I can barely make it to 105IAS and then nearly stall after rotation.
  22. Hey man Sry Ive been Xplane vacationing.. flying around Tahiti and Bora Bora. With all these crazy approaches I need to spend some time getting my normal landings on point. Still flying the SAAB!
