  1. This is the sort of stuff that happens when you model systems at a nice low level...all sorts of subtle nuances start popping up for "free" in terms of developer time. Great job. I recall having something similar happen when we were first testing PilotEdge's radio system...we had a pilot drop down too low while he was too far from the transmitter that was in use (our fault for not swapping him to a frequency with a more local transmitter). We low two way comms with the pilot but noticed an aircraft flying at a much higher altitude not too far away. We asked that pilot to hop over to the lost pilot's frequency and relay a message to contact Oakland Center on freq xxx.xx, and then to return to this freq after the relay was done. The pilot said he'd give it a shot. Low and behold, we get a message 20 seconds later from the lost pilot on the right frequency. Even I was shocked after that one. When you model a system after the real thing, all sorts of neat stuff just happens as a result.

  3. Gizmo for Win64 finally compiled and linked today using MS tools. Some critical bugs are present due to some changes (hacks) made along the way so that it compiles with Microsoft tools. These should be resolved in the next few days.... fixing bugs is far far easier than deciphering the muck that compiler and linkers call "error messages". Feels good to be moving forward again...

  5. OK, I thought this is cool and worth posting. We just got around to tying in the reversers to the hydraulics. There are 3 hydraulic sources: Engine power, Electric pump and a standby pump...each pump weaker than the next. Well how fast the reversers deploy is tied to how much hydraulic power is going into them. So the reversers will deploy nice and fast with the engine pumps. Not so fast with the electric pumps...and just downright slow with the standby pump. So lets say you have one systems down...the 'A' system on the left side. In this case, the left reverser won't deploy...not good on landing (sort of...the standby pump cuts on automatically under certain conditions but I'm making a point . You CAN; however, turn on the standby pump and use that to deploy the A reverser, BUT it will take a bit longer than the B (right) side so on touchdown, you'll have a bit of asymmetric thrust as you deploy the reversers until the slow reverser opens up fully....but only if you advance the throttles though. You could "pull into reverse"...wait a few extra seconds to let the slower side deploy, THEN crank back on the reverse throttle. If the standby system has to power both sides, then the extension time is doubly long.....almost such that you won't get significant reverse thrust till you're a good ways down the runway. You can play with the hydraulic switches, turn pumps on and off and see the reversers deploy at different rates. When I was testing it, I deployed the reversers, turned off system A....commanded the reversers closed and sat there for about 30 seconds staring at the reverser lock annunciator waiting for the other one to close before I realized I hadn't turned on the standby pump. very cool! 11. You will need to download new installers from X-Aviation. I understand that it would've been nicer to simply change out the plugin but this wasn't possible. Some of the core code that Gizmo used wasn't feasible to port to 64 bit and I had to select another third party library to do the job. The upside of this is that some (most? ...Cam?) of the products will receive a functionality update at the same time that you're installing the new version of Gizmo, so it would've required a new product-installer to get these benefits anyway.

  14. We've done fly-ins at my VA and it really is not that difficult to organize. Here are the steps we use: 1. Assign a fly-in leader 2. Leader chooses departure and arrival airports and plans the route 3. Leader chooses aircraft type to be flown 4. Leader chooses date and time for the fly-in 5. Leader chooses server to be used (Vatsim, PilotEdge, NetFlight, X-FlightServer, IVAO) 6. Leader advertises and promotes the fly-in on appropriate forums 7. Leader makes any adjustments to scheduling, server or aircraft to be flown as needed, based on pilot feedback in the forums We have our own TeamSpeak server that we use for pilot to pilot communications regardless of the server we are flying on. DigitalThemePark has an amazing TeamSpeak server. No matter what, I recommend using TeamSpeak for air to air radio. Cameron has said he is not interested in an "official" X-Pilot fly-in and I understand that. He didn't say you can't promote a fly-in here. Just go for it. Plan it. Promote it. Fly it. Simple and fun!

  19. Thank you all for the comments ! Yes it's an awesome plane. You can find it here. OSM2XP + XPOSM + Zones-Photo X-Plane. At 1500ft AGL it depends on the regions and the quality of the textures.

  20. For now, the smoke is only the default X-Plane smoke. They're working on SASL based smoke generation, but it is not ready yet. It will be in the future, but for now, the smoke switch in the cockpit toggles the smoke on and off just like hitting the 'x' key in V9.7. Custom smoke is being worked on, which will include colored smoke. Dan was not too happy with Alabeo for the smoke description in the product info, but it is coming. I don't think the lack of custom smoke right now takes anything away from the Waco experience. She's a sweet ride!

  22. Sorry to hear the Org gestapo are still hard at work. Been around a long time with the org and have known Tom and Cameron about as long. We have all been banned at one time or another for personal reasons the org owners and mods take out on there members. They changed hands so many times in going on 13 years I have been an org member. Learned a long time ago, to keep my posts simple and direct not to offend any mod or member. Still an active org member, but only post on rare times. Am glad I still have a good standing with Nicholas and get my purchase updates when I ask. Since I get them no other way. Jim

  23. Sorry to hear Zymurg. It is almost hard to believe isn't it? I mean, for years, people thought we just made up this stuff...some of the things that have come out of the admins mouth at the org just makes me blink in amazment. Anyhow, we're glad to have you here and look forward to your contributions. We are kicking around several things here to try and get add-on building tutorials and training going and bolster the community sharing of great add-ons using some of the newer XP technologies. Tom K
